![]() ![]() Things are coming along well. The deck gun is all set and ready to go. Be forewarned: this thing reloads at a slowwwww rate (about 2 rounds/min tops). Nice to see you got the .50cal finally working right. I could never fix the problems it has in the stock game.

I think there is a post in here about someone slowing it down to be more realistic (unless that was a PM). I have to admit I usually take the easy road. If I had time what I should do is slow down some of the other guns. Instead I try to keep the deckgun similar to the speed of the ones shooting back. ![]() The .50cal is posted in the download section as "12mm Browning (.50 cal)". The gun would not elevate, I fixed that, added shells (I don't remember if it didn't have any or if I just increased the amount) and I think the problem most had was the "AcceptedTypes". It is not a Light or Heavy like most, it is a Machine gun, so the AcceptedType is USMGAA which needs to be added to the flakgun "Accepted Type". Peabody Peabody

Looking for Gato-stuff, I found a couple of other shots:
Pre-war photo of Narwhal deckgun... ![]() The Willoughby's Provisional Scout Battalion of the 7th infantry Division practicing launching their rubber rafts of a partially submerged Nautilus. Dutch Harbor, 30 april 1943. ![]() And found a bit of info on this one... ![]() On the night of February 7, 1943, Cmd. Howard Gilmore collided with an attacking Japanese gunboat. Gilmore was badly wounded and two other bridge personnel were killed.Gilmore, knowing he could not make it below and that hesitation on the part of the crew would mean the possible sinking of his ship, ordered the boat submerged with him still outside. The bow of Growler was bent 90 degrees to port in the collision. The bent bow was cut off and replaced with another bow to effect repairs. Gilmore received the Medal of Honour for his selfless act. Somebody earlier remarked the deck gun fires higher than it should. I can confirm that. I just finished my 2nd patrol in the Narwhal, and the deck gun is overshooting no matter if you use any gunsight setting, no gunsight, or have the crew shoot for you. They literally could not hit the broadside of the Huge European Liner at less than 6000 yards!! Everything was sailing way over it. And on manual, even if you depress all the way down to 500, and the target is well over that distance, it overshoots.
And there seems to be another problem. Using the deck gun manually, it sometimes refuses to shoot. It seems to happen when trying to shoot at something straight ahead. If the gun is pointed below a certain depth, it won't fire. If you raise it, or the target is on the side of you, it'll fire then. It can't, or shouldn't, be a situation where you might hit your own sub, because not only is there nothing in front of the gun, but it also does it when the target is just a little off to one side of the bow, where there's clearly no chance of shooting yourself. Any ideas, or fixes?

I'm surprised no one's posted any Pearl Harbor shots of the Narwhal. She actually helped shoot down some Japs during the battle.

My Narwhal has SJ Radar installed in Dec '41.
I figured it must be something in the EQP or SNS cfgs causing this, but have tried editing entries in here with no effect. Is there any way to get me to start in Dec 41 with no surface search radar? Just FYI, I am running this on top of TMO 1.9. I realise the Narwahl was made for stock, but I am test driving it in TMO, and in every other respect it works just fine. Is it maybe some MOD conflict causing the radar to turn up too early, or is this as the Narwahl was designed? Any help would be appreciated. ![]() |

Yep, that's the one!
Had a look in the upc file, and found an entry for the SJ Radar. Changed the entry date from NULL to July '42. Works like a charm. Many thanks for pointing me in the right direction Karle94 ![]() |

I know it's "too late" and doesn't matter anymore, but remembered you had some debate regarding rudder...

we REALLY could have used those when we made the first set of models X_X now I wanna re-do the model haha Keltos? still around buddy? EDIT: okay, here's what I'll do. I've kinda wanted to do it anyways but I'll take our CURRENT Narwhal build and re-do it, I'll remap the textures and such, and Keltos, you can help if you want, but I think it's about time I started learning my no-texture mistakes and how to fix them. afterwards if everyone likes how I did we can set up a way to get it over to everyone's current mod, free of charge ^_^ that is, if everyone approves. ANOTHER EDIT: ....................... O_O you thought it was big before....After a little stretching and scaling I got the narwhal's true proportions revealed. She was too short, too skinny, and the tower was too tall...the hull of the boat now dwarfs the tower in an obvious way. looking at those blueprints...that's really the way it was. oh man. I'll take some screenies and let you all go bugeyed too

here you guys go.
just a little comparison, that's the hull model that shipped with the sub the one I'm working on has the tower on it. ![]() top view. best comparison shot I can imagine ![]() I thought it felt a little small O_O two-minute dive times will be a bit more believable too EDIT: The completed boat. Thankfully since there wasn't much added to the model(s) most of keltos' texture coordinates remain. there will be a few that have to be re-unwrapped and a few textures are probably going to be skewed but would you lookit that...its HUGE ![]()
