U-46 december 39 heading for AM53

now just between the Scottish mainland and the Southern Hebrides

Still have 6 eels left, but am flat out of deckgun ammo, have sunk lots of small fry, tugs, fishing trawlers, sloops, that sort of stuff, also caught one Large Merchant, took that out, sunk 4 tramp steamers as well.

weather has been nicely calm all the way, hopefully we'll find a juicy convoy and if we do well enough we'll be home for Christmas, surely the war will be over by then.:hmm:

I had a patrol totalling up to a round 75,000 ton figure. Damn, I was so sure this could have been 100k. Closest I have ever got.

My rough and ready veterans and I will be setting out today as we drunk all the clubs dry, so why we are out to sea the bars can restock for our return.

U-52 failed to return from its 12th patrol. 640,000 tons of allied shipping...

On a brighter note, U-69 Type VIIc has joined the fight from Jan 1941, having had an extensive refit and recrew. Some time spent training to use the new targeting system (have now gone to manual targeting).

Patrol 1 off Freetown. Only got as far as Cadiz for a resupply. 6 ships sunk for 47,000 tons. Sank a C3 in a heavily escorted convoy with 2 Torps from 2500m and later penetrated the convoy to attack again and missed a ship from 300m :rotfl:
Will leave Cadiz tomorrow to complete Freetown assignment.

19-12-39 U-46 Oblt. z. S. Hans Brix

Calling in from 10nm north of Helgoland inbound for Kiel ETA 20-12-39 0500u

Have sunk 23 ships and one Hurricane on the way to AM53 and back for at total of 56139 GRT. Estimate another 4000 grt damaged but sinking unconfirmed. Negligible damage to U-boat. 200 AA shells left, 50% diesel no eels no HE

On reporting to Flotillenbefehlshaber it turns out I get to go right back to AM53 after christmas oh well

I loaded up my old trusty IXB campaign.

April 1944 - Holy smokes, U-123 barely got out of Brest! Shot down a Hudson and a Mosquito Tetse though

Made it to the ocean, and there are lots of planes. Unfortunately, to make matters worse, my transfer to Penang is FUBAR. It became my homebase I cannot upgrade at Brest or any other port it seems.

I am refuelling at U-488 in the DF quadrant, then it's decision time. I can't make Penang, that's for sure. BDU will be pissed :rotfl:

There should be a couple of tankers in the Indian ocean somewhere near madagascar and mauritius, although the allies did send a taskforce to take those out at some point. I suggest you check the GWX manual, I think you might still be able to get to Penang.

but to go in a IXb is stretching its capabilities

Ay, there were two refueling tankers there. The 'Brake' is still there, unfortunately, I'll never get there. It'll be gone on the 11th of March, it's the 27th of February '44 and I'm off the shoulder of Spain.

Trying to pick up a London - Sierra Leone convoy before refueling at U-488 (that'll be there until april - so if I try for Penang, I'll have max fuel, until the last drop).

I know everything about conserving fuel, I have a feeling I can just make it, but it's hard to include the submerged/battery kilometers into my plan. Ofcourse those do not consume diesel.

I can't upgrade, and there's no changing flotilla either ofcourse.
It's really weird, but I also like this 'bug', it has this end-of-the-war-hopelessness in it
