Default The light goes out of the Limelite

Glenn Yarborough, The tenor for the Limeliters, inspired by Woody Guthrie,
Quote:
One day in 1950, "This Land is Your Land" singer Woody Guthrie came to town for a performance. After the show, he played guitar and sang songs all night in Holzman and Yarbrough's room. The day after that impromptu dorm room concert, Yarbrough bought a guitar of his own.

Thanks for your postings; I never realized just how many other artists Bowie recorded/performed with over his career. The list is certainly long and broad in scope and shows he had very good taste in his music. Thanks again...

It's been a bit of a boring day (the voices in my head are snoring) and I was listening to Steve Jones on the radio and he brought up a name from the past: Screaming Lord Sutch. I had heard of Lord Sutch back in the early 70s from one of the owners of the rock club where i was employed at the time. Lord Sutch was a musician from the early 60s who went on to be one of those artists who influenced other more notable artists; he was also an erstwhile politican who ran for Parliament several times, never winning; I recall he held the all time record for the most unsuccessful campaigns. He was sort of a "horror-rock" performer; here he is with his all time hit single, both on record and live:

Screaming Lord Sutch - Jack The Ripper (single version)

Screaming Lord Sutch - Jack The Ripper (Live Circa '64 or '65)

Being reminded about Lord Sutch also brought to mind another performer and his group who also were given to theatrics, but were very good musicians: The Sensational Alex Harvey Band:

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band
- Delilah (Live - Old Grey Whistle Test)

The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - Gambling Bar Room Blues

Oh, excuse me; the voices seem to be waking up...yes, I hear you I'll be right there...

Lord Sutch... I was never sure why he put his (top) hat in at elections; it seemed to be just a pisstake because he and we knew that the TV and radio interviewers were obligated to interview him along with all the other 'serious' candidates. And he was always there in that hat, waiting his turn to just say... just what did he say?
