UK government faces questions over vaccine supply after NHS warns of a reduction in England in April.

Five million doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca jab, produced in India, have been held up by four weeks.

But the government says it's still on track to offer a first dose to all adults by the end of July.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock says UK is "ahead of schedule" to offer a first dose to all over 50s by 15 April.

Matt Hancock is speaking in the Commons and Prime Minister Boris Johnson will lead a Downing Street briefing later.

There are concerns over more than 500 "do not resuscitate" decisions made in England during the pandemic.

Tanzania's president dies following rumours he had contracted Covid-19

Vaccine passports should be given to citizens across the EU "without discrimination", officials say.

The EMA is due to release the findings of an investigation into cases of blood clots in a handful of jab recipients.

The EU’s medicines agency will give Europeans this afternoon its decision on the safety of the Oxford-AstraZeneca drug, after 15 countries suspended its use over a small number of blood clots. On Tuesday the agency said the benefits of the drug outweighed the risks of side effects. The World Health Organization says there's no proven link and the leaders of Italy and France say they’ll resume using the vaccine quickly if it’s given the green light.

French leaders will this evening announce new measures aimed at slowing a “third wave” of Covid. A year after France’s first lockdown, Prime Minister Jean Castex will announce additional curbs from this weekend for the greater Paris and northern Hauts-de-France regions.

Norway has recorded its second highest daily number of infections so far, with 1,064 cases.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi will take part in a memorial ceremony in Bergamo this morning as part of a national day to remember more than 100,000 Covid victims. Bergamo is heavily symbolic for Italians as it was where military trucks were pictured last year transporting coffins out of the city.

A Danish study suggests 80% of people who catch Covid are protected against further infection, although immunity falls after six months. But the study of PCR tests by the Statens Serum Institute also finds that only 47% of over-65s have the same protection. Researcher Steen Ethelberg says even if you have had Covid it would be a good idea to get vaccinated.

Meanwhile as European Union leadership, or lack thereof, squabble and debate. 577 310 deaths have been reported in the EU/EEA and rising.

Predicting the probability for Long Covid:

https://www.nature.com/articles/s415...df?origin=ppub

Women are far mor eoften affected than men. The risk for Long Covid rises with age, beign aorund 10% at the age of 50 and being above 20% at the age of 70. The risk is higher when during the infection phase more than 5 different symptoms have been experienced by the ill.

German scientists say they found the reason for the thrombosis complications that temporarily had stopped the vaccination with AZ in several European countries.

Der Spiegel writes:

The University Medical Center Greifswald has now broken down the likely cause of the blood clots. According to Andreas Greinacher, he and his team found special antibodies in the blood of those affected, which are directed against the body's own blood platelets. These cells play an important role in blood clotting. The antibodies activate the platelets: they clump together, as they normally do to close a wound, and thus form blood clots. The basic problem is therefore an autoimmune reaction.

In Germany, 13 cases of sinus vein thrombosis were reported shortly after an AstraZeneca vaccination, all of which were associated with a lack of blood platelets, i.e. a so-called thrombocytopenia. Around 1.6 million people in Germany were vaccinated.

According to Greinacher, the problems that arose shortly after the vaccination are similar to a long-known complication with the administration of another agent, heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, or HIT for short. There, too, antibodies activate platelets so that clots form. In both cases the symptoms appear within 5 to 14 days after administration of the preparation.
--

Females in general are more often affected by auto-immune diseases than males, and in the main its the older people and nurses who are being vaccinated so far. Most nurses are females. This may explain why so many women are amongst the thrombosis victims.

Several European countries are resuming use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine after EU regulators give the go-ahead.

Germany, France, Italy and Spain are among the countries restarting their rollout of the jab.

There isn’t enough vaccine supply in Europe at the moment to stop a third wave of Covid-19, the German health minister has warned.

The UK saw 7% more deaths than normally expected during 2020, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to receive his first dose of the vaccine later.

He is urging people to get inoculated after reassuring the public the AstraZeneca jab is "safe"

UK government borrowing hits the highest February level on record.

Paris is set to go into a month-long Covid lockdown as the country fears a third wave.

France has recorded more than 35,000 new infections within the past 24 hours.

Rockstar, I just claim for myself that I am certainly very unsuspicious of liking and defending the EU, this forum gives many evidences for the opposite , but the AZ stop is not the EU's fault, not this time. In fact the European nations that had temporarily halted the vaccination with AZ, did so against the explicit advise and recommendation and desire of the EU. And while the stop lasted, the EU repeatedly urged to continue with the vaccinaiton and said it thinks the AZ is okay. The claimed issues should be examined (and rightly so, they are valid medical concerns), but the vaccination should continue, thats what the EU wanted.

National decisions. Not EU decisions, not on this topic. In the end, health policy is nothing the EU has a legitimate and legal mandate over, it just tries to ursurp such authoritiy as well. But legally, health policy in Europe is exclusively national responsibility, not EU responsibility. Thats a legal fact.

At some local hospital in Sweden, they have started to test citizens for some T-cell. As said in the news - There are some who are immun against Corona.
This test is more advanced

The UK's latest R number is estimated to be between 0.6 and 0.9, government figures suggest.

The figure shows the average number of people each person goes on to infect and when below 1 it means the Covid epidemic is shrinking.

The UK saw 7% more deaths than normally expected during 2020, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is to receive his first dose of the vaccine later and is keen to reassure the public the AstraZeneca jab is "safe"

A further 101 deaths within 28 days of a positive coronavirus test are recorded in the UK

More than two million people in the UK have now received a second dose of a vaccine.

European countries including Germany, France, Italy and Spain are resuming use of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

The positive benefits of the vaccine outweigh risks, the World Health Organization says, with data not suggesting an increase in blood clots.

Hospital visits in Scotland will restart from 26 April, the Scottish health secretary announces.

Germany is facing a "massive" third wave of Covid-19 infections, according to Prof Tobias Kurth, an epidemiologist at Berlin university hospital Charite-Universitatsmedizin.

France's Prime Minister Jean Castex, 55, has received the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine live on television in a bid to bolster public confidence in the jab.
