CTD - it's not just a job

There is one convoy group that goes through the channel, and one patrol craft that circles the island. The other vessels routed straight through the channel are fishing boats. All others go in or out of Rabaul. You can see most of the yellow RGG (Random Generated Groups) that originate and / or are "docked" at Rabaul off to the left. None of them go straight through the channel. There is a group that starts there on May 6, 1942 for the Coral Sea Battle, but it does not return there. No US groups are routed anywhere near there in 1942. All of the Solomon Island stuff doesn't start until September of 1942. Almost definitely a very bad run-a-way spawning issue... Now, your orders make me suspicious also. Is the primary objective up top for you to proceed directly to Area G3? or is that something else? Even with a magnifying glass, there aren't enough pixels to make it out... - and is the secondary objective to do Lifeguard duty off the Solomons?? If so, here's the ME chart of the two combined: One is a Fremantle assignment, the other is a Brisbane assignment. When you activated Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate, had you cleared your Save folder? Used a 'clean' install of SH4? I ask, because this looks a lot like a mod soup of the bad kind (Ralles Modsoup of the good kind comes courtesy Bleiente... ). Can you open your JSGME, click on the blue "Tasks..." in the middle bar, and choose "Export activated mods list to..." then choose "Clipboard". Paste that into your next reply with a <Ctrl><V> combination key press, and we'll see if there's any clues there. If you are using an old Save file, that is the problem. You cannot use ~anything~ old in v0.71 of FotRSU. It cross-contaminates your install. You might be able to get away with it between v0.71 and v0.72 when it comes out, but even then, that is not advised... |

Ahoy Propbeanie Really sorry about the microscopic pics. There was 1 IJN warship that went thru there he must of got pummeled by the allied planes. The rest of the traffic is all planes. It was a clean install on SH4 and the folder in the documents folder was deleted. I do however have the game in 3 separate folders in the C drive. Each has their own folder. And a pristine copy of SH4 on a separate drive. I did 1 edit to Fotrsu I borrowed from Ducimus 4.) How do i get back "tails" and sensor information on the navigation map?
Disable Tmaru, and delete the following two files: \Data\Menu\gui\ContLine.dds \Data\Menu\gui\DashLine.dds Fotrsu was not installed at the time There is only 1 primary objective LifeGuard duty off the Solomon Islands before Dec. I still had time so I was returning to port for a reload. The other 2 were completed Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157 [C:\fortsu\MODS] 100_FalloftheRisingSun_Ultimate_v0.71_PublicBeta_E N Bigger Better Protractors This is my first time with any version of Fotrsu B4 I did the tail edit If I switched between TMO, GFO, and FOTRSU I would rename the sh4 folder each game has its own folder since the edit. exclusively fotrsu If this is the problem I apologize for wasting your time |

I have been stationed between Rabual & New Ireland for much of the morning 9am to 10:40am. 20th June 1942 -Sitting on surface - Just off Western New Ireland. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Patrols: Light Air cover. Two planes - West to east. 1 x DE Minkaze - Clockwise curcuit patrol around island, 1 x 4 Sanpan fleet - North to South / South to North +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 20th June - 15.42 Two [KI-44] air units coming from Rabual straight to my location. Have I been spotted ?!?! Goes to periscope depth. 15:44 - Both planes fly beyond my position inwards to New Ireland. - Sea unit appears on map behind me, as I surface... what the hell.... it's a survivor. Those planes must have crashed - Wreckage found on map, south of me. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 22nd June - 02:34 - Contact warship - medium speed closing - Bearing 301 - Long range. 1 x DD Minkaze - Clockwise circuit patrol around island, 13:30 - Air Contact south, very fast - fading Arrive at wreak age site - nothing to see.. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ 24th June - 19:55 Small Convoy - south to north, two merchants, one light escort. took a torp shot 16312 yards. MISSED !!! 26th June 23:45 Back on station as 20th June - same traffic in area. 27th June 13:25 2 x Zero's from Rabual to New Ireland way south of me, as they go over land they both crash. "Worth noting the wreakage spotted on the 20th June was 99% Air Crash" Due to witnessing this latest issue. 2 x KI-44 same issue, one makes it, the other hits the mountains, slightly northeast of the last impact site. I'm trying to hold station until July 19th, as per your last image. Will have to save and continue after work tonight.

Dive Planes not Showing as Deployed
While lurking in the Bismark Sea just north of Rabaul I was forced to dive by a steady swarm of planes (turned out to be Liberators raiding Rabaul - so many that their presence had a pretty severe effect on the fps,) but that is a different issue
I wanted to watch the dive from the external camera (love the eye candy) but noticed right away that the dive planes were not extended even though in a dive. I checked this several times, with a depth change, a normal dive from the surface, and a crash dive from the surface. The dive planes on my Balao do not extend. The picture shows the bow during a depth change; I didn't capture the pics during the others, but did observe the dive planes do not appear to operate visually, although of course the boat did dive. The second pic shows date, time and approximate position (Jan 25, 1943 @1331 Base Time. I have seen a discussion of this regarding dive planes on a GAR class, but this is the first I noticed the same on a Balao. UPDATE: I reloaded a save taken just before moving back up north of Rabaul. This time the dive planes worked properly. Very strange, but there it is. Unfortunately, before I could continue the patrol after sinking an Old Large Passenger Liner, the game crashed to the old Blue Screen of Death! Haven't seen that in years. No idea why, but I doubt it was caused by the game. Will start checking drivers. Sigh.

Thanks S7rikeback for checking that out. I noticed the survivors and thought what the heck what kind of captain would I be if I didn't attempt to rescue them. I could get close to them but the life preserver icon did not light up but if I kept clicking on it I received the rescued survivors dialog. figured I could complete the mission early so I kept at it that's when it turned into an airshow

Be sure and press the "Save" button, then use the "X" to close it. Now your FotRSU install will use that folder, and the Stock game will use the SH4 folder. If there isn't a copy of MultiSH in the TMO folder, copy the one in FotRSU, and paste it in the TMO folder. Run it there also, and choose a different "name" for the folder. "TMO" would be rather intuitive... - The "names" can only be three letters though, but that's an SH4 thing... Doing that, none of your installs can get in the way of the others (in theory). Just be sure and clear the SH4 Save folder once you do that, so that you maybe eliminate the cross-contamination. You will lose all progress thus far. When you go to experiment with altering files like you did, you could set it up as a JSGME-style mod, by making a folder in the MOD folder, such as "Tails", then "Data" below that, and then "Menu" and then "gui", along with your two files in that. Now you can "activate" it like any other mod. If it goofs things up, de-activate it, and wrench on it some more... Be aware, that it is very difficult for us to diagnose issues with your FotRSU if you "tweak" it yourself... btw, you'll not be able to "rescue" enemy flyers ever in the game. Nor will you be able to rescue friendlies, if the mission is not set-up for that, and at that, you ~have~ to be within the designated area. That's just how the game works... If a fellow decide to fly his plane into the mountain side, or deep blue sea, just leave him be and don't waste your time ... |

You're welcome. I should add to that, with the MultiSH use, you need separate installs of the game for it to work properly. I assumed (bad thing to do usually) that you had separate folders for SH4 Stock, TMO and FotRSU. If you don't, you can use either RR's Corruption Management System, which has certain demands (works great tho), or just copy the SH4 folder yourself, and then paste it elsewhere on a hard drive, and rename it. Alakazam, new install (unless you've got Steam, which complicates things).

That is one interesting set of videos you have there Immelmann! We had no idea that a midget would submerge like that to avoid torpedoes! We knew that the subs would speed up / slow down and / or turn to avoid, but dive?... "Hunt" for you, yes... definitely scary! It does look though, a little, that the vessel may have issues with sea-worthiness in slightly rough seas. We'll look into the "balance" on the unit and its apparent nose-down attitude. It did not show much in real life when surfaced though, either, so a view with just the conning tower and maybe a little of the "boat" itself, would be about all that would be seen.
That is one of those situations where you want to have the Event Camera turned on. The 3D image of the midget does not change as he shoots a torpedo (another of the game's short-comings), so you wouldn't be able to "see" the torpedo was launched, unless you were there when it did. You might be able to hear it on sonar yourself, but I'm not certain. I do know that the sonarman does not give you a warning. Here is a video of a test mission in a possible future "optional" add-on for FotRSU later: Notice the "warning" received from the Event Camera? If you look closely, you'll notice that the submerged JyunsenB is shooting from its aft tubes only. That has since been corrected. His first shot misses to my rear. I have no idea where his 2nd shot went. You might also notice that both torps "broach" the surface as seen in the Event Viewer. This happens with quite a few of the shots from submerged subs, but I have not seen it from the surfaced vessels. But that is the "warning device"... such as it is... On the subject of the burning corvette, there are two of them that patrol around the eastern island of the Midway Atoll. It could be either of the two that you saw, but most likely it's PC_053, which circles in close. It crosses the path of PC_051 in two places, and a collision between the two could well be the cause of the fire and sinking. Changes in the US_HarborTraffic layer forthcoming. Thanks for the reports. |

I just tried to load the save right after contact and the game crashed! I was so excited about the contact that I forgot to properly document time and place. The stream is on VOD though so I should be able to reverse engineer a fairly accurate time and place. Have to go to work now. I'll see what I can come up with tonight.
Duly noted. I'm off to work now.

I don't like that your Save crashed there Immelmann. Did it crash as the "No mission too difficult" came on, or as soon as you chose the save, or somewhere between or after?... let us know what you find out.
If you can't figure the location, the mission orders would help, if you remember them, because you were just outside the circle for the patrol area, and I can get close to the location with that. I didn't write down a date for the contact when I was watching your videos though... I'll watch 'em again and see if you mention that. I'm assuming you are leaving from Midway though, and after the burning corvette... ?? |

Along that plotted track, about where the red arrow is pointed, at around 16:00 hours on August 9th, 1942. The IJN Midget is going to be running an almost head on collision course, but maybe a few hundred yards north of that track. A nearly parallel course in the opposite direction. In other words, the IJN Midget will be tracking East Southeast. I would show up around noon and just wait. J0313, or anyone else, please let me know if you find success in intercepting this target. That would make me feel good! Quote:
Not leaving from Midway, leaving for patrol from Pearl. You see, in order to get on station faster, I like to run at flank from Pearl to Midway. I top off the fuel there and then dial back to my standard fuel conservation speed of 10 knots. The mission orders were to patrol off Hokkaido for 5 days within the designated area. So I was headed directly for the center of that circle. The funny thing about that plot is this. The plot from Pearl, to Midway, to the center of that circle is pretty much a straight line! I hope that I have answered all of your questions.
