Heavy fighting is taking place across Gaza, with house-to-house fighting reported as Israeli forces intensify their ground operation.

Tanks are closing in on three areas - Khan Younis in the south and Jabalia and Shuja'iya in the north, where hundreds of thousands of civilians remain.

The UN says 600,000 people are under evacuation orders in southern Gaza but "there is nowhere to go" because shelters are so full.

A Palestinian journalist in Khan Younis told the BBC air strikes were happening every few minutes and "everything is shaking"

On Tuesday, Israel said its troops had reached "the heart of Khan Younis" - the largest southern city - on the "most intense" day of fighting in its ground operation.

Israel believes Hamas leaders could be hiding in the city - and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu insists the war can only be won with "crushing force"

The Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza has seen heavy fighting as Israeli tanks surround the area.

The Hamas-run local authority said about 100,000 people are still in the camp without a functioning hospital and at risk of starvation.

No aid has reached the north since the humanitarian truce ended at the start of December.

Yesterday, UN chief Antonio Guterres warned that the humanitarian system in Gaza may collapse and public order could completely break down.

His comments have been criticised by Israel Foreign Minister Eli Cohen, who called Guterres' tenure a "danger to world peace"

The US Secretary of State says there is a "gap" between Israel's intent to protect civilians and how the war has been unfolding in Gaza.

Antony Blinken says “it remains imperative that Israel put a premium on civilian protection" - Israel insists it’s taking steps to minimise civilian harm.

Meanwhile, a UN official says the Israeli military offensive means there is no safe place left for aid agencies in southern Gaza.

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled to Rafah near the border with Egypt as intense fighting continues in Khan Younis.

Israel has indicated it may open the Kerem Shalom crossing for goods inspections as part of efforts to increase aid supplies into Gaza, the US says.

Like practically all international organisations fon this kind, this one too is quite anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian.
The men - who knows that they all are innocent civilians? They were arrested because they are of an age that makes them eligible for combat, and were found in areas that should have been evacuated by civilians, and they got stripped to search them and be sure they do not carry explosives on their bodies. IDF says they will now be interrogated and tested to find out who is Hamas and who not.

Putting it on TV is a way to send a message around, a message according to the cultural standards of that region, a message of strength and subjugation: mess with us, and see where it gets you: naked and humilated on the streets. The beasts committing the massacre and committing the atrocities and acts of sexual violence systematically and the mutilations and mass rapings and sexual murders did the same, they sent a message: look, this we do to your women and there is nothing you can do against it.

Israeli troops continue their assault on southern Gaza city of Khan Younis, with the Israel-Hamas war now in its tenth week.

There are reports of house-to-house fighting in the city; most of the population has fled to coastal areas or further south to Rafah.

On Friday night, the US blocked a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.

The UN chief said Gaza was at breaking point - but the US called the resolution "imbalanced" and unrealistic, though urged Israel to do more to protect civilians.

Also on Friday, Israel said two soldiers had been severely wounded in a failed attempt to rescue a hostage seized by Hamas.

Hamas attacked Israel on 7 October, killing 1,200 people and taking 240 hostages, some of whom were released during a short-lived truce.

Hamas officials in Gaza say Israel has killed more than 17,177 people in its retaliatory campaign, including about 7,000 children.
