Stealth is the way you go!

So I choose electric torpedoes as often as I can.

Happy hunting!

88mm deck gun, firing HE. Very, very good at naval gunnery now.

Torpedo wise I always brought all gas/steam torpedoes until 1942, then I started carrying a mix, initially gas/steam heavy and then even. In 1945, now, I tend to carry a electric-heavy mix of torpedoes, carrying the gas-steam torpedoes for valuable targets in low light conditions.

Though I am a big fan of my C/38 20mm Flakzweiling guns as well; I tend not to submerge under air attack as if I do that I stand a pretty good chance of eating a few Wabos as I go under, whereas if I stand on the surface at ahead flank making radical turns and directing my gunner's fire, I can shoot down literally dozens of enemy aircraft. Especially now that I've upgraded U568 to the mod three type tower with the two light single heavy emplacement.

Steamers. They're more reliable.

I've yet to have an electric torpedo fail me, but I only started using them once they became the later-generation weapons past 1942 or so. I'm also not running GWX at the moment, so that probably has a large part in it.

I load T2 electrics. Though, the 3k meter range is a bummer. Keep in mind the ranges of your targets and they wont have any time to react. I used to keep nothing but acoustics in the stern, but I'm not getting the time to swing to use those anymore.
wait, I just thought of something. If I did carry all acoustics in the stern, I could go to flank after firing my bow torps, then swing the stern to the nearest escort, fire the acoustic at him, launch a Bold, dive to 150m(Type VIIB) and maybe have a good chance to evade, perhaps hitting the nearest escort..... hmmmmm... gotta try that one.
The only thing I could see wrong in the above attack, is that the escorts would hear me, warning the flock of merchants, giving them time to change course and ruining my initial salvo of torpedoes.
Do the escorts warn the merchants if they hear you?(GWX and SH3cmdr)

edit: lol, keep those steamers away from me too, esp. the cleveland type!

T-1s because I can't stand the slow speed and low range of the electrics. I would have chosen deck gun excpet that the weather is almost always bad near Ireland...

I always have my 4 bow tubes full of T2 or T3s...
Especially early in the war I might stumble across the odd enemy taskforce where I have to shoot from great range, so a trail of bubbles is a real problem. But most of the time I miss anyway...

Btw were the Captains able to choose which torpedos their boat got, or did BDU assign them to each boat?

I'm all electric. I like the stealthiness of the electrics. I can't hit anything with a steam torpedo. The targets always spot them and avoid them.
