It gets a little chilly up here in January. Usually we are good for at least 2 weeks of -40F. Good weather for drying the laundry.

I was out in northern Alberta for two weeks in early February in 1980 and the warmest it got for the previous 2 weeks was -45F. I got there and it warmed up to -40F.

I can't even imagine how cold that is.

It's gets under 20F here and I'm dying. -40F has to be a real PITA.

You certainly do NOT want to lick that metal pole.
Better to wear mitts, they keep the hands warmer AND you wont stick to the same metal pole or door handles.
Don't plan on running without a scarf over your mouth and nose. You will freeze your lungs, so I am told (I don't run at all).
At those temps, you leave the car running while you are in the store. Or do what I do and that is just stay at home beside the wood stove.
I check the weather every morning in winter.

Reminds me of a Jack London short story.

I like cold weather....but that's the point at which I'd hate it.

That's stupid cold.

When it gets down that cold, I find excuses not to go out. You can tell before you go out. The cats and dog are almost right on top of the stove trying to keep warm.
The chickens stay in their house and welcome me with the heat gun to thaw out their water system.
When it gets down that cold we don't let the stoves go out. Junior will stay up 'till 2 tending them and I will get up about 4 to start babysitting them.
Smoke from the chimney goes straight up.

I'm usually in just a t-shirt all winter inside, but when it gets really cold outside you will find me in the t-shirt, a flannel shirt on top and my heavy winter coat with down filled vest underneath. My French block heater ( toque/watch cap) is on my head from mid October 'till mid April.

In days gone by, I would wear long johns, but I find them too restrictive and a PITA to put on and take off. IF I was spending a long time out in the cold, then I would consider wearing them again.

Somewhere between 7 and 10 inches of snow on the ground this morning.

It's been years since we've had this much.

Quick, box it up and ship it to me. We got rain yesterday and most of the snow is gone!

Currently enjoying a balmy 18F/-8C morning. Expected high is 25/-4. Hardly a cloud in the sky.
