Actually I scratch built it. The pants were like 5 $ at a flea market. The Boots were my old border patrol issues with some modifications, maybe 15 $. The shirt was custom made and that was where the cost came in. I supplied the materials and had a Russian seamstress sew it together from the original TV series pattern. I think she charged my 60-70 $. The phaser is a cheesey playmates toy, I wasnt bringing my high dollar stuf to a convention. I spent months trying to get the right material and color for that dopey shirt they just dont exist anymore. The early seasons of Trek the shirts were velour (Stretch), later nylon.

Actually right after this photo was taken, I spun around and stunned her with my phaser. Unknown to me was that I had beamed down to a planet inhabitted by hostile plaster women.

Since I have some trekkies (or trekkers, if you prefer) gathered here, I wondered if I might venture a few questions. Yeah, I could probably find the answers myself, but I thought a few might enjoy educating me, instead. Besides, I'm lazy.

1) How is it that the crew isn't splattered across the walls every time the ship accelerates and decelerates?

2) From what little I have seen, the ships appear to shake violently when hit. That being the case, why don't they just use high-yield nuclear-tipped solid munitions fired from a railgun or something. The kinetic force from that would do a lot more damage than a phaser, wouldn't it?

3) How is it that they can travel faster than light, and teleport people and stuff, but still miss a ship that's a kilometer long with a weapon that appears to travel at least the speed of light? Was there a 500-year hiatus on targetting-computer technology?

4) On that note, why are the borg such bad shots?

5) I'm having difficulty with the idea of Hanomag as Captain Kirk. Bear in mind, I only watched a few episodes from each of the series, but none of them mentioned a "save" function. Did I just miss it?

I know it's just a show (I mean epic show, don't death-grip me) and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I've known some trekkies who enjoyed answering questions of this nature.

Answer or ignore, I'm just an inquisitive idiot

*cracks fingers and gets typing*

1) Every starship has inertial dampeners, which work to counteract the force of acceleration and deceleration.

2) To quote Andre Burmanis, the show's science consultant: "Well it is the same principle, ultimately. We do see on Star Trek, for example, the ship will get involved in a tussle with a alien and will be fired upon, and the ship shakes. Well, if we have inertial dampers how come the crew is feeling that shake? Presumably the inertial dampers have a certain response time. It’s not instantaneous, so there’s a little bit of a lag and it’s that lag that creates the shake that we momentarily experience when the ship is hit by phaser fire or a photon torpedo or something. " and as far as nuclear tipped missiles go, that'd hardly be as spacey-cool as a phaser. :p

3) Targetting computers or no, the ship still needs to be aligned with a phaser bank or torpedo tube in order to a) get a weapons lock and b) successfully hold the lock long enough for the torpedo or phaser to do maximum damage. Plus, you've got to take into consideration that if the ships could hit every single thing they targetted instantly, it wouldnt be much of a show

4) Because the Borg suck.

5) I hear he wants me as Spock.

Ohh man can you feel the nerdiness up in this thread

Nerdiness is good. I'm an avid Firefly fan. Thanks for the answers, too.

Even though I never got into it, Star Trek can be cool (even if I'd rather see a nuclear s***storm between battlecruisers that are 5km long)

Yes, you must wonder why throughout all of their battles with the Borg they never decided to replicate some shotguns or mount some 5" cannons on their ships.

I've been a Star Trek fan since Encounter at Farpoint Station. I have watched several TOS episodes, and find them interesting, but I would say I am a fan of TMP era on ... everything before that I enjoy but wouldn't say I am a fan of.
I think it's obvious based on the quote that my favorite series is DS9. Furthermore, my favorite captain is Benjamin Sisko, my favorite character so far has been SCPO O'Brien, and my favorite Starship Class is the Akira.
