It's not a big deal actually:
1) Install SHIII
2) Patch to v1.4b (UBI has a good page with different download links to patch 1.4)
3) Install GWX
4) Patch GWX to v1.03with the latest patch
5) Install SH3 Commander (a small program that allows you to pre-configure the mission set-up as well as increase time-compression from the stock 1056x,)
6) Patch SH3 Commander so it's compatible with GWX v1.03 (info in the excellent GWX manual as well as on the GWX download page)

No sweat - shouldn't take more than 7-8 hours tops :p

You might want to get used to the stock version of the game then try a supermod

Well, all the controls and commands are the same as the Trigger Maru mod for SHVI, so it's not a big differnece actually. The biggest change is actually that the AI is a really good challenge, so I just keep my ambitions in check and work on getting a good crew before taking on the big juicy targets.

Ouupss .. got a bit ahead of myself there. Normally when I do that I hear something like: "WO: Contact!, Battleship, 358 degrees, fast moving, closing, short rang...argh ..."

With regards to steps numbers 2 and 4, can I just directly put in patches v1.4b and GWX v1.03 or will I need to put in previous patches leading up to these first?

Now you only need the 1.4b patch and GWX 1.03 patches
They are both cumalative and contain all previous ones

1.Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6. Visit the GWX homepage and download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Visit the GWX homepage and download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

GWX is really something. I have been playing it for two days already and it differs from stock SHIII as the day from the night.

Moreover, what's is foremost pleasant it does improve framerate on my notebook, you know.

And as for SHIV,I am not even going to buy it.His own to each,I think, during World War II,the most powerfull submarine fleet was German Kriegsmarine, the most powerfull air force was USAF.Ubisoft should make a difference, what certain type of warfare matches each country best.

Funny post, the RAF was pretty powerful too, and the VVS did very well (once they learned some hard lessons) at tacair support. Maybe you didn't know the US submarine fleet actually won their war (60% of all Japanese shipping I believe) and the U-boats lost their's? Though they certainly went down fighting can't deny that. You seriously think a flight sim should be made were you only fly US planes??? :rotfl:

Thank you for these excellent instructions! I got SH3 up and running in hardly no time at all including the patches and the GWX mod. Now I see what everyone has been talking about for all this time. For the short time that I've played it I can already see that this is truly a masterpiece and an immersing game with the help of the GWX mod! It really puts you on your toes and feels great not to mention that it feels so REAL! I don’t have SH3 Commander Users in yet and I’m not even quite sure what all that it does but I sure like what I see in this game so far. You guys are brilliant in this community with everything you come up with. I can see that I am going to have tons of fun with this. I just need to figure out how everything works and learn the ins and the outs of this great sim that you guys have made better. I hope to see some of you on the high seas sometime. Maybe you can give me some good pointers on how to be a better Skipper. Cheers to all!

Glad you are sorted Lt Cobra

Sh3commander is a great program which can run alongsie any mod and be tailored in any way you like

Reduce crew management to 0
Addin custom\random start screens etc
Reduce\lengthen days in port
Reduce gun reload rates and much much more

If you decide to get SH3commander dont forget the additional GWX specific files ( from below my sig )
Will give you all the new shipnames on your SH3commander patrol reports and much more again

Have fun
