Nuke IMPORTANT UPDATE!

We're Moving!
To a new Discord Server
URL will be posted here once available, probably in a new thread.

Due to some technical difficulties with the Discord server we've been using (I locked myself out of my discord account which was the owner... oops) We have decided it nessecary to create a new Discord server so that it can be properly administrated.

I will try to remove any reference to the old discord, so that there is less confusion. Stand by for further posts with more details when they are available. I'll also try and remember to post a link to wherever you may need to go for more info, in the main DW thread if it doesn't get posted here.

Indeed, it was very good game.

Complicated situation but good plan that we followed.

My task was to attack surface units. Therefore my helos were in ASuW mode. I was able to eliminate Ivan Rogov, that prevented enemy's landing. Than I focused on Udaloy. She was damaged and later on sunk.

At the end I joined hunting an Akula. And my last torpedo hit her.

It was very good battle and good time. Such a scenario with big amount of players are the best.

We need to continue that for sure.

Default Any way of joining in without using discord?

Hi there folks, long time enthusiast and player of sub sims. just got into dangerous waters and I'm glad to see that there is an apparent active community playing Multiplayer mission.

I would love to join but I really don't like the data abuse track record of Discord's developer and so I choose not to use it. Is there any way you would be willing to facilitate those who don't want to use discord?

If not, no problem and I understand.

Incidentally, there is an free and importantly open source group chat called Riot running on the matrix network. It can also be self hosted and isolated if one so chooses. Moreover it has all the features of a Discord or a Slack with an IRC style public channel browser. If you are concerned at all about data privacy and decentralised solutions, i think it's worth your time.

Have fun

What exactly you have in mind and why you think Riot do it better?

Default Better in that the potential abuse is almost zero.

Jason Citron (founder of Openfeint and Discord) Sold his company in 2011 to GREE. Around the same time Openfeint was involved in a class action lawsuit with allegations of scraping personally identifiable information from user interactions and reserving the right to sell it, among other related allegations.

There are many sources for this if you'd like to do some digging. Here are a few that covered the story, the complaint, and a video from a chap that will probably be more helpful than I could be in a reasonable amount of time.

Business buy over:
https://www.mcvuk.com/business/openf...der-steps-down

articles about the case:
https://archive.org/details/OpenfeintComplaint
https://www.adweek.com/digital/openfeint-lawsuit-gree/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenFeint

Perhaps more helpful to some, video
https://archive.org/details/youtube-QN_6AZT92pU

As far as I can see the case was voluntarily dismissed, likely due to the actions being within the scope of the End User Agreement, but that of course doesn't make the actions right.

Discord, a company founded on the principle of keeping their communication software "free", obviously needs to cover running costs. Over and above that, they have received large investments in the tens of millions, some of which include $20 million dollars from a venture capital firm called Greylock partners and a further $50 million more recently from a group of investors including the same again.

Venture capitalists take calculated risks based on existing value growing over time. The most valuable thing in Discord it's user base. I hope you can see how I (and many others) could find it hard to place their trust in a project with this kind of history, where the valuable asset is the same as has been abused in the past.

Riot on the other hand is FOSS (Free Open Source Software), allowing anyone to read and see what is being done by the software. If it were to be engaging in the same kind of data capture, you could read where it does this and (if you were so inclined) remove that functionality, improve it and start your own Opensource fork that doesn't scrape personal data. Also with the network being decentralised there is no one place that data would be captured and exploited from since you control which server you create your account in.

On top of that, being able to self host goes a step further toward helping make sure my data isn't being stored somewhere I don't want it to be.

Sure, the network can be slow if you connect yourself to high traffic channels but if you don't it works well and is being actively worked on.

A long post, but an important issue.

Ok, thx for info

I will stay for now on Discord. DWLD channel is not only technical thing - most important is community for many peoples. Moving active players from one to another "place" is always very hard task. Building community takes years. Nobody likes to move from place to place - we use discord only for communications: game announcement, after action report, host IP, etc.

I understand. I don't mean for you to force everyone onto a different platform, I only mean get the ball rolling, so to speak, so that people have a choice if they would prefer not to use Discord.

When it comes to compromising situations, looking for recreation and social interaction are two where people are most vulnerable to exploitation from shameless businesses (...ahem...Facebook). In my opinion they have no place in our fun here and we can function without them.

Thanks for taking the time anyway, regardless of what you choose to do with this.
Have fun!

Default Keen Bilge Rat

Hi

I've not been on this forum for many years, playing Sub command when it first came out. Loved playing multiplayer.
Feeling nostalgic I bought DW on steam and would like to join the MP community.

Could anyone tell me what software I need and what I need to do to join in?

Kindest Regards
Nick

Hi, we play with RA mod. Current version is 1.47

If you are Window 8 - 10 user, you should consider to use dgvoodoo2 application for playing in window mode (increased stability):

Link

Reinforce Alert mod you will find on the same forum

For MP sessions we use only "native" Directplay 8 connection (applications like hamachi causes big connections problems). It means host (only host) should have external IP.
Directplay 8 is NOT default part of Windows 10. For activation it, you have to check "legacy drivers" for directX

Click to my signature - it's invitation to discord DW channel.

I have installed the mod, but I do not understand the statement below:

For MP sessions we use only "native" Directplay 8 connection (applications like hamachi causes big connections problems). It means host (only host) should have external IP.
Directplay 8 is NOT default part of Windows 10. For activation it, you have to check "legacy drivers" for directX

How do I do this?
Sorry if I'm being thick.

Also, not sure about the dgvoodoo2 application, will try without it first

Cheers
Nick

However does anyone know how to make the game window bigger?
Tried several things with out look.

Cheers
