I heard they were very good at athletics and weight lifting....

I shouldn't... There were some very capable soldiers in the Italian forces

Rgr that, the military leaders were the main cause of the failures.

Default Crazy Bongos

Does anyone else get irritated by the Crazy Bongos which somebody usually starts pounding as soon as the action kicks off in a 1960s TV drama (such as Danger Man or The Saint)?

It's a wonder that actors such as Kenneth J. Warren (below, remember him?) could do their job with all this din going on. Say he was trying to smash an oil drum down on Roger Moore's head... Crazy Bongos! Or say Bert Kwouk was trying to dig some chopsticks into Patrick McGoohan's eyes... Crazy Bongos! how could he concentrate on getting them in properly?

Kenneth Warren says:

"I don't dig those Crazy Bongos..."

Default Bert Kwouk says:

"It's quite true: it was maddening. As soon as anyone so much as broke into a trot there would be this explosion of crazy bongos. I remember they were filming an episode of The Saint: Roger was kissing this girl when Kenny came creeping up behind him carrying a huge piano (he was very strong). Well, when the bongos started she bit him so hard he couldn't do that thing with his eyebrow for a week, it hurt his face so much..."
