Barwell Boys arrived on ship Moreton Bay. Those were young men and boys from England who came to South Australia to be apprenticed on farms throughout the state to cover the 6,000 South Australian World War I casualties. Ship Losses: Lois (United States) While at anchor with no one aboard, the 21-gross register ton motor vessel was driven ashore on Pitt Island (58.1089°N 135.4519°W) in the harbor at Hoonah, Territory of Alaska, by an ice floe, then was destroyed by a fire that occurred when her captain went aboard with a lantern, triggering an explosion. He survived with burns about the head.

Ship Losses: Swallow (United States) After her gasoline engine stopped running during a voyage in Southeast Alaska from Ketchikan to Metlakatla, the 10-gross register ton, 32.2-foot (9.8 m) fishing vessel drifted onto a rock and was wrecked in Nichols Passage off Driest Point (55°10′40″N 131°36′15″W). Her crew of three survived. Her wreck later slid off the rock and sank in deeper water, leaving only her mast above water, and by 23 February she had disappeared entirely.

Ship Losses: Assimina M. Embiricos (Greece) The cargo ship ran aground in the Scheldt.[57] She broke in two the next day and was a total loss.

Trial began in Munich for charges of treason arising from the Beer Hall Putsch of November 9, 1923, with Adolf Hitler, Erich Ludendorff and eight other Nazis began in Munich. Security was heavy and onlookers were thoroughly searched for weapons before being allowed in.

(In February 1924 John Logie Baird sent rudimentary television pictures over a short distance). Ship Losses: Ethel M. Bartlett (United Kingdom) The schooner foundered in the Atlantic Ocean (40°11′N 54°16′W). Her crew were rescued by Caldy Light ( United Kingdom).

Ship Losses: Director (United States) The 18-gross register ton fishing vessel was wrecked on the coast of Hinchinbrook Island off the south-central coast of the Territory of Alaska during a gale. The Turkish National Assembly formally ended the Ottoman Caliphate that had operated for 407 years, voting "almost unanimously" to abolish the office, and ordered that Abdulmejid II and his harem were to be deported by March 15. Ship Losses: Gordon E. Moulton (United Kingdom) The schooner was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean 15 nautical miles (28 km) off Burgeo, Newfoundland. Gylsboda (Sweden) The cargo ship was damaged by ice and put into Åhus, where she sank. She was refloated on 6 March. Patagonier (Belgium) The cargo ship ran aground in the Paraná River, Argentina. She was refloated on 11 March.
