Also in the news: Belgium, where the European Commission is based, has one of the highest Covid-19 infection rates in Europe, with Brussels considered to be a particular hot-spot.

EU Chief Ursula von der Leyen Urges Gradual Lifting of Coronavirus Lockdowns, Warns of a Third Wave.
  • European Union leaders have also started considering what parts of the population should be vaccinated first.
So can anyone explain who or what 'European Union leaders' are? Are they the elected leader of each state or are they the appointed E.U. commission political bourgeoise?

People aged 50-64 in England are being offered free flu jabs from 1 December as part of an expanded winter vaccine scheme.

Just half of close contacts given to England's NHS Test and Trace are being reached in some areas, a BBC investigation has found.

Millions of public sector workers in England face a pay freeze after a huge rise in spending to fight the pandemic.

More than two million people in Scotland are preparing to move to the country's toughest level of coronavirus restrictions.

Northern Ireland is set to face a two-week period of tougher lockdown measures from next Friday.

A "tough" six months lies ahead for Europe, the World Health Organization has warned.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has told Americans to avoid travel for the Thanksgiving holiday amid soaring Covid-19 cases.

Elected leaders of each state do what leaders of a state do, and do not order what 27 nations have to do. The EU is not a government but a loose trade union.

B.t.w. how's that pandemic task force in the US going?

A loose trade union, are you kidding me?

A loose trade union involved in making decisions who gets vaccinated first? We have trade unions here too but they don't print their own money or have their own center for disease control or agencies that regulate borders, monetary policy, security, domestic and foreign policies. That doesn't sound like a loose trade union that sounds almost exactly like our own federal government. All it needs now is an army.

The EU is helping countries to prepare their vaccination campaigns, who should be vaccinated first, how to have a fair distribution and how to protect the most vulnerable. It is about recommendations based on best practice experience.

"Member States should now start preparing a common vaccination strategy for vaccine deployment.
Member States should, among others, ensure:
capacity of vaccination services to deliver COVID-19 vaccines, including skilled workforce and medical and protective equipment;
easy and affordable access to vaccines for target populations;
deployment of vaccines with different characteristics and storage and transport needs, in particular in terms of cold chain, cooled transport and storage capacity;
clear communication on the benefits, risks and importance of COVID-19 vaccines to build public trust."

"All Member States will have access to COVID-19 vaccines at the same time on the basis of population size. The overall number of vaccine doses will be limited during the initial stages of deployment and before production can be ramped up. The Communication therefore provides examples of unranked priority groups to be considered by countries once COVID-19 vaccines become available, including:

healthcare and long-term care facility workers;
persons over 60 years of age;
persons whose state of health makes them particularly at risk;
essential workers;
persons who cannot socially distance;
more disadvantaged socio-economic groups."

And so on. No doubt some national leaders will prioritise who will be vaccinated first in their country. Poland, Romania and Hungary come to mind..

Yep sound familiar. Here the state, if they request it, can receive assistance from the federal government its why we pay taxes and you pay membership fees to the Union. But its still the responsibility of each state to develop and administer COVID response and vaccination programs. Like I said only thing you lack is an army.

You know what they say: Imitation is the highest form of compliment. hehehe

This is not actually true.

Heard in the Danish news some days ago. The help package the Danish parliament agreed on in March hasn't yet been payed. The reason to this is EU. EU has to approve this. Something with it's illegal for a state to support a company, which is not the case here.

Same story in Sweden

It's the bigger companies who is waiting for this economical help from their government and which EU has to approve.

(I could have heard it wrong)
