It doesn't bother me what people want to compare each others countries with because there is no two identical in all data available.

The one figure I look at is the total number of deaths. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm the first to admit the UK government isn't many steps above shambolic and useless but I'm of the firm belief there are worse examples out there.

One can add meaning to such comparisons, to assess the validity of national strategies and capacities and handling, by standardizing case nubmers and death number against population size. Means: cases/deaths per 1m, or 100k, for exmaple. Just giving totals leads to - well, to Trumpian propaganda logic, if comparing.

Berlin police forcefully disperse protest over virus rules.

Overall, the country has reported about 833,000 coronavirus cases and more than 13,000 virus-related deaths in the pandemic.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas reacted sharply to the accusation from some protesters that the measures were akin to the 1933 “Enabling Act,” which allowed the Nazis to enact laws without parliamentary approval.

Reported deaths or Attributed deaths. Not much consistency there either.

The UK has ended up with one of the worst death rates in the world - coronavirus has killed more than 50,000 people so far.

Italy was the first country hit during Europe’s initial Covid wave and it’s seen another 753 deaths in the 24 hours to last night. The eastern region of Abruzzo has decided to become a “red zone”, joining seven other areas with maximum restrictions.

Austria’s nursing homes have been badly affected by the second wave of the pandemic. In the 40 days up to 12 November, 323 deaths have been recorded – more than half of the country’s 607 fatalities in that time.

Strict Covid measures in the Netherlands that came into force two weeks ago have been relaxed, so museums and swimming pools are reopening today and up to 100 people can now attend funerals.

Cases in Germany have gone up 22,609 in the past 24 hours, close to last week’s peak. The RKI public health agency has appealed to Germans to follow hygiene and distancing measures.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has warned of a Christmas like no other before it. “The last thing we want is a Christmas wave – if we’re not careful at Christmas we’ll endure the consequences three or four weeks later,” he says.

More than 250,000 Americans have now died with coronavirus, making it the highest death toll anywhere in the world. The country has now reported 250,029 deaths and nearly 11.5 million cases, according to Johns Hopkins University. In El Paso, Texas, prison inmates have been recruited to move bodies for $2 (£1.50) an hour at mobile morgues as the hard-hit state struggles to cope with the surge in deaths.

^ So you count 27 different countries all lumped together until you get a higher death rate figure before comparing against one country, namely the US?

Now I realise why the kick back from some members here

I'm now beginning to wonder if my impartiality has blinded me.

Hey don't look at me I didn't lump them together, the European Centers for Disease Control did. I even posted the link. But if you want to compare 27 individual European states and 50 individual American States I got those numbers too. Long live the Union!

To give you a better idea as to what I mean. You dont live in a place called Europe Union and I dont live in place called United States. I live in Maryland and though similar to the other 49 states. We are governed by citizens of Maryland, a Maryland constitution and a Maryland COVID response plan. The U.S. federal government can only offer suggestions, expertise, funds and equipment IF REQUESTED by the state. The U.S> federal government cannot arbitrarily insert itself into state affairs, it cannot rule by decree or edict over the states. Nor is it the job of the federal government to create and enforce some grand master national response plan all of us are to follow.

From what little I've read the European Union and Schengen area is set somewhat similar. Though it seems to me European states can still lawfully close their borders to each other. We cant.

So, if we are to count by Union and yes the United States is considered a Union. Then according to the European Center for Disease Control. Europe actually leads the world in the total number of COVID related deaths and those numbers are still rising, I've read by 1 death every 17 seconds.

The EU is no nation. The US is. With a passport from Virgina (is there even one, individual passports for eahc of the 50 states?)you get no Visa to other nations. With a passport from the Us you get a Visa. The EU HQ has less to say on nations' corona' measures than Washington has to say in the union's states' administration.

Thus, one compares nation-wise: the US versus Germany, the UK, Norway, etc. Such comparisons allow conclusion on efficviency of Corona policies, and health systems' and administrators' performance.

All I can add to that is 'deal with it'. If you don't like it or have a problem with the information then tell your European Center for Disease Control to stop publishing numbers representing the E.U. and E.E.Z. and just like an ostrich sticks his head in the sand it will all go away.
