The checkering makes me think it is something desgined for regular manipulation.
It has to be a flight stick of some sort. F-86 control stick. |

You are correct but also incorrect. The F-101 is a Voodoo, not a Starfighter, the Starfighter (or tentpeg) is the F-104. Nevertheless, it is from an F-101 so you've got it.
