Default Torpedo loading graphics glitch

When loading the tube 3 the animation of the rear guy is in the middle of the room instead of to the side behind the torpedo. Looks like he is playing craps or something a good two feet away from the torpedo.

When the next patch comes out I would close this one altogether and start a new "Bugs after Patch 1.2" thread!

Did I buy the wrong game??????

Should I spend $ 200 for a new graphic card, just to figure out, that the server then lets me down all the time, that i've got to fight all those bugs and glitches I read about here?????

Or just goin' on building my beloved german U-boats in 1:72 scale?
Seems to be the better idea....

I play SH5 on 4 years rig - without AA and shadows but in HD resolution. The performance in most cases is similar to SH4. If you think your machine can's stand SH5 buy SH3, install GWX and enjoy. SH3 was the revolution, SH3 is the most polished game of the three (IMO).

Default Annoying

I've played a few hours to get the feel of things even though I have yet to install a new graphics card able to handle enough video memory to run it properly which makes "walking" around the boat all but impossible.

Because it doesn't "light up", the bearing readout in the scope and particularly the UZO while making night surface attacks is AWFUL.

I also seem to have a problem getting the guncrew back OFF the gun. The dialogue with the Watch Officer allows manning the gun but I have yet to find how to get them to stand down again. There seems to be a similar problem with the Flak gun guy the only difference being he doesn't GO to the flak gun in the first place.

The Auto Mode TDC, once you get the hang of it, is really very simple to use successfully. In manual mode it's a bit "untidy" in the input phase and the Stadimeter is very poor. Again a huge problem is the "dark" readout figures.

Plotting is made more difficult because of the detection area shading which makes reading headings, etc very hard.

One other thing I noticed (and this MAY be caused by my current graphics capability being insufficient) is that the stop watch runs slow at normal 1x speed. I had to set the time to 2x to carry out a proper mark, time, mark plot to get target speed.

I hope over the coming weeks a lot of these problems can be corrected/modded because it's quite obvious the game is heavily biased towards Auto TDC which is, in all honesty, FAR too simple once you get a feel for the new display.

Is it just a plain old shoot-em-up kind of game when set up in Auto TDC mode? Yeah, pretty much I'm afraid. Can it be modded to make it far more Manual TDC friendly regarding being able to read the figures of the plotting tools, read the figures in the scope or UZO at night and fixing the Stadimeter? I hope so or it'll be back to SH3 for me. (You'll notice I didn't say "back to SH4". That's because SH4 started us on the slippery slope which has lead us to SH5 as it is straight out of the box).

Ansiotropic Filtering and Anti Aliasing eat VRAM for breakfast. Try turning these features down and you might find 384MB (what my vid card has) is plenty to render SH5 smoothly.

I run 1280x1024 on a 384MB 8800GT with minimal AA and AF (maybe 2-4x AA, 4-6x AF) and I can hardly complain.

something i have noticed when loading saved games, is the weather changes, sometimes even the time of day, and also there are no voices sometimes.

this morning i loaded a saved game from last night, expecting to be in the thick night time fog i was in, and instead it was a glorious sunny morning, the clock was still showing 0400 hrs, and the voices had gone.

I hope this is the right thread to post this.

I having troubles using the periscopes. Sometimes when I use the obervation periscope I get a crash to desktop. It's not all the time, but often enough to get me really annoyed and frustrated.

Iliaz, I can confirm that. The only CTD I've suffered also happened when I tried to access the observation scope. I clicked it, waited for it to come up, and at the point when the camera whizzes over to the eyepiece, I dropped to the desktop. It's worked fine 99 times, but just once it crashed. No idea how to repeat it though.

I think you're right about the reason for the stopwatch. It must be the speed of your system that's causing the game to run slow. In which case, the speed of the stopwatch should match the speed of the game for the purpose of your calculations, if the whole simulation is running at less than 1x when compared to reality.

I also concur about the stadimeter problems for the manual TDC. In the tutorial mission (when map updates were on), I found my range reading was incorrect by approximately half, due to not knowing whether to use the mast height or funnel height for lining things up. I have no interests in using the auto-TDC mode and never have! Takes away most of the challenge (and resultant satisfaction) of the game for me.

I've not had an issue with the readouts - at night the bearing displays and crosshairs in the scopes and UZO should become green, instead of black.

Concerning the scope. The observation scope has an eyepiece that goes up and down with the main tube of the scope, when completely lowered this eyepiece is deep in a well. This is why you can lower the observation scope when you are at it.
However, the attack does indeed raise and lower when you are at it. The attack scope is a powered unit with an eyepiece that does not raise and lower with the tube.

Another nice detail the devs did. Not a bug.

I've never had this happen when I use Shift-Del to lower it fully.

Anyone else having problems to lower the periscope? It's always up and looks very idiotic. No matter what I do I can't lower it .

I think this might fit into the "glitch" category.
Finished another round of the Tutorial last night (starting a new career) after sinking five ships. When I berthed at Kiel I saved the game and quit. I was then presented with a breakdown of my Career so far and I was 'told' I had sunk ten ships. Huh? Unless the program counted the escorts that ran aground while I sailed into Kiel (another bug) I can't figure how I managed to sink twice the number of ships I had.
Weird.

"can" or "cannot"?
If that's was the thing I've experienced it also shouldn't play periscope moving sound I guess.
