Getting the type XXI U-boat and related tech at 1942 in GWX 3.0
Hi. I was wondering if it was possible to get the type XXI u-boat at an earlier time, say 1942 and it's related tech. i've tried modifying Basic.cfg before but even if i do get the type XXI u-boat, it's like there are missing pieces like i can't use the flak gun or i don't have radar and sonar absorbent coatings yet and all the related tech. Are there other files i have to modify?
Thanks P.S. GWX 3.0 rocks! It's just sad that my pc is crappy so it takes a really long time to load a mission but the wait is worth it. Nice work you guys. |

Hi. I'm sure I've read this before somewhere on this forum but I can't find it. Is it possible to increase the amount of allied air patrols? I'm in late 44 and yet I've never encountered an allied air patrol. Not even in the Bay of Biscay!! There has only been a few bombings of Bergen (my own home city ) when leaving port.
Love to the GWX crew

When I patrol in '43 onwards, I can't even SNEEZE without attracting aircraft. (Heavy weather does keep them away though.) Honestly, I think you've just been lucky. The Bay of Biscay in GWX is crawling with air cover... and I seem to find every one of them. I even once witnessed an AI U-boat being attacked by a Sunderland... that I assumed was headed for me. (In Biscay) Leaving Trondheim & Bergen isn't much better for me either. Once you leave the fjords... You have to keep your head on a swivel. |

I sometimes wish they would come for me.
One thing I think is pretty cool with GWX is that there are so many nations involved. Like yesterday when I was patrolling west of Ireland and decided to head north to get me some renown for the snorkel. I decided to raid a port in Spitsbergen In there I was sunk by two norwegian vessels. Two NORWEGIAN vessels. That's cool. I bet they're not happy with me turning into a U-boat captain... And that was in 1944. Never guessed the norwegians controlled Spitsbergen.

Allied soldiers were stationed on the island in 1941 to prevent Nazi Germany from occupying the islands. While the island had officially been ceded to Norway in the 1920s, that country fell under German occupation in 1940. The majority of inhabitants on the island were Russian (Soviet Union had a non-aggression pact with Germany until June 22, 1941). The United Kingdom and Canada sent military forces to the island to destroy installations, mainly Soviet coal mines, and prevent the Germans from occupying it.
The German battleship Tirpitz and an escort flotilla shelled and destroyed the Allied weather station there in Operation Sizilien in 1943. On 6 September, a squadron consisting of Tirpitz, Scharnhorst and nine destroyers weighed anchor in Altenfjord and Kåfjord and headed for Spitsbergen, to attack the Allied base there. At dawn on 8 September 1943 Tirpitz and Scharnhorst opened fire against the two 3-in guns which comprised the defences of Barentsburg, and the destroyers ran inshore with landing parties. Before noon it was all over. Some prisoners had been taken, a supply dump destroyed, the wireless station wrecked and the landing parties had returned on board. The German ships returned safely to Altenfjord and Kåfjord on 9 September 1943. Although those on board did not yet know it, Tirpitz had carried out her last operation.

That's not all he's full on, but out of politeness we don't go into that in public.
No, Jim is one of the best and most helpful folks around here. And I get away with saying things like that because we're friends. And he's from Jolly Old English-type-guy land.

I don't like coffee either. I guess that's why we get along so well. On the other hand, I can't drink beer either, so...

Close - first coffee - then Wolves at War site - THEN here. But substantially the same - SH3 trumps all.
