Considering what's happened in Libya, my expectations are low.
Moving on to the SDSR, it appears that a new MPA is indeed on the cards. My bet is the P-8, with an outside possibility of the Kawasaki P-1. Considering Scotland's continuing political unreliability, I think they'll be based in either England or Wales. Not that there are any suitable base facilities for them in Scotland these days. Mike.

Well, I was right about the P-8 being bought for the RAF:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-34897803 Main points: Nine P-8's to finally replace the scrapped Nimrod's, will probably be based at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland (contrary to my pessimistic assessment); Two "Strike Brigades" to be created by 2025; Typhoon service life will be extended by 10 years to 2040, with two extra squadrons being formed; 138 F-35B Lightning II's will be acquired, thus allowing both Queen Elizabeth class carriers to be in service at the same time. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34893614 Not mentioned, but also announced, is that only 8 Type 26 frigates will be procured at this time, however the intention is still to have a class of 13. Unsurprisingly, the SNP are kicking up a fuss about that last point whilst Glasgow's Daily Record (aka the Daily Ranger), despite being a Unionist paper and SLab rag, is also trotting out it's "Heartless English Tories betray Glasgow ship workers" guff..... ![]() Mike.

The creation of two rapid deployment strike brigades by 2025 doesn't sound all that rapid to me and this current PM appears to be writing cheques he won't be around to put his signature to.
The question now being....who or what (savings wise) will be paying for all this, but I do agree the need for all the above 'capability gap filling).

Not long now for the Spending Review announcement.
I wonder what manner of delights Gideon has in store for us.

As Osborne talks more and more of 'fiscal rectitude' the more I think he needs rectal fistitude.

Well he certainly pulled a fast one over Labour in dropping the tax credits.
They'll soon be replaced by Universal Credit which will have the same or an even more damaging effect on the low paid. Was nice to see the Shadow Chancellor going into comedy mode with the little red book of a well known former ruler who is believed to be responsible for over four million deaths ![]()

Osborne isn't daft, now that Labour has gone hard left and the Lib Dems are vaporised, the middle ground is open for the taking.

Labour policy in dissaray (not that they have announced one since the leadership contest) no more so than in 'Trident'....Leader and deputy can't agree and the cabinet can't agree with the leadership or the parliamentary members

Yeah, I mean I can respect Corbyn for running a fairly open shop in that you don't have to solidly toe the line and doff your cap to the big boss, that you can have your own opinion...but, it doesn't lead to a very organised party and it's a bit like putting a freshly cut limb into a pool of sharks...

I'm waiting to see if Corbyn allows his side a free vote, especially when you consider he has voted in excess of 400 times against the party whip. Would be a tad hypocritical if he denied his side that I reckon.
