I see, but some tips about which areas?
Near the major warship naval bases, like Scapa Flow, Gibraltar, Malta or Alexandria. The Mediterranean is obviously the best choice to find many, as there are lots of small formations of cruisers and destroyers patrolling around. You can also find warship formations and warships and carriers escorting some major convoys

During 39, just west of Scapa or 100km or so out from Loch Ewe.

Hey guys,

Does the 16 km atmosphere mod included with GWX 3.0 via JSGME affect OLC's environment mod that is implemented in GWX in any way?

If I am not mistaken, I think the OLC mod includes a 16 Km mod.

Are there any differences between the two?

I am not sure; but I think that the OLC mod includes a horizon fix, and the GWX does not.

From GWX website:

"Environment improvements:
  • Environment 2.4.3 mod by 'onelifecrisis' — a MAJOR breakthrough in SH3 environmental modding! OLC was the first modder to definitively solve the horizon defect inherent in other 16km environment mods. He has also largely removed the unrealistic polygon effect from the waves present in ALL other environmental mods. In GWX 3.0 we have blended OLC's awesome mod with elements of our own work that we wanted to retain. If you're unfamiliar with OLC's Environment mod, it includes:
    • New environment colours
    • Improved sky textures, fog, lighting and reflections.
    • Darker light levels at night (based on time of day, time of year and geographic location)
    • Visual sensors of all non-player units (ships, planes, etc.) are greatly affected by visibility levels at night — and also by your U-boat's speed and visible profile. These changes mean that surface attacks are very much a possibility early in the war (pre-radar)
    • Visual sensors of all non-player units are also affected by the unit's veterancy (i.e. competence level of the crew), which increases as the war progresses.
    • Many other environment and lighting fixes."
I know that GWX implements OLC's mod, what confused me was that the JSGME that came with GWX also includes a "16km Atmosphere" mod. Question is will enabling that negate the effects of OLC's mod that was originally in GWX?

To all, please read carefully.

CaptainNemo12,

The 16km atmosphere optional mod in GWX contains OLC's Environment 2.4.3 mod.

Later versions of his work can be placed over the top of GWX without the need to enable the included 16km atmosphere mod included in GWX.

HOWEVER, after you enable OLC's latest Environment mod... do not then enable the 16km atmosphere mod included with GWX... or else you'll revert to the default GWX version.

(Just enable OLC's latest work last in the sequence.)

If this confuses anyone, the default 16km Atmosphere mod included with GWX... containing OLC's earlier work is quite good. If it makes things easier, you can just stick with it.

Advice re: Rules of Engagement

Could someone please tell me where in GWX 3.0 Gold, I can find out what my rules of engagement are?

I've just started a new campaign in 1939 and I'm just transiting thru the English channel - which is very target rich. Should I shoot or what?

Should I only target military ships and if so, when does this change?

Sorry for the nooby questions - haven't played GWX 3.0 before and have been playing SH4 for the last 18 months so I've kinda forgotten most of my SH3 stuff, and I couldn't find the answer on a couple of searches.

Thanks

Elphaba

GWX3 does not start like the vanilla version the day before the war but starts weeks ahead.

So, no, you do not start shooting as you are not at war with Britain and/or France. Not yet.

They are neutral so you will get a minus renown for sinking them.

This extra pre-war time will allow you to take the English Channel short cut without being attacked so you can be positioned in the convoy lanes for that blessed day of blood and cuts flying all over the North Atlantic to the joy of sharks everywhere.

Or, you can run out, do your patrol grid, get back to base and improve your crew all before the invasion of Poland

This was a good move by GWX3 IMO
