Thanks for that Bert, I get a better picture now, I'll give it a go later!
Cheers.

Edit: The Links to the tracking room are dead, any ideas?

What bert said. The viewer is completely optional, if you don't enable the Tracking Room feature you can simply ignore it. I do however recommend using it from the beginning because then a map will pop up instantly after running Sh3Gen, and it will help you understand better the principles that Sh3Gen is based upon. However, some previous knowledge of enterprise applications is required for using the viewer.

I still hope one day I can make a map generator for SHIV, however it shall be be more lightweight and without most ingame stuff however. It depends on whether I will ever start playing SHIV, right now I still dont have a computer to run it ..

:hmm: Ummm ... re the links to the tracking room. AFAIK (I haven't used the tracking room part in a little while) the tracking room part is integrated into the ver 0.8.2. After you generate an intel map, it'll then prompt you to export to tracking room (which is a subfolder of the sh3Gen folder). If you do that, it just creates the viewer files for the Tatik viewer. You then open the viewer and point it to the tracking room files. So all you need to do is install the viewer. BTW, I remember (sort of) that there were some comments about a newer ver of the viewer (which has nothing to do with GE) being problematic. I was (I don't have the viewer installed just now) using an earlier version (which must have been 1.8.6.341, 'cause that's what's in my archive) of the viewer which worked fine. If you can't find it let me know and i'll put it up (it's freeware).

edit/add: Yup, I just checked by running the tracking room export feature. GE will correct me if I have anything wrong, but you click export (btw before you generate/export make sure that sh3Gen is pointing to your latest save game). It automatically creates a user data folder which is where it puts the tracking room files, organized by your career name and subfolders for saved games. So you would then open the Tatik viewer and point to your sh3Gen/userdata/savegame folder/tracking files.

Tracking Room is integrated, and the full documentation is available from the Sh3Gen application ( Resources->Documentation ) . Or you find the files inside Sh3Gen\Documentation\Web

There was a problem with an older version of the viewer, but it was fixed. This version of Sh3Gen should work with any version of the viewer.

If you can live with an older version you can simply get it here:

I think the person in charge of gathering Intell. should be reassigned to scrubbing the ballast tanks.....

Well if you look further back in this thread it has been discussed many times before. My statement that they are environmental object types added by the newer mods, and they get misidentified as icebergs. To solve this one must either drop icebergs from the feature list, or release hand tuned versions regularly, both of which I am not inclined to do.

Sorry. I hadn't looked through all the pages. I should have figured someone would have seen it by now.

No problem.

Dolphins, lightships and such were added in GWX 2.0 upwards, and they use the same id as icebergs, so that's the reason why Sh3Gen misinterprets them.

Possible short term solutions and what I think about them:

- remove icebergs from Sh3Gen feature list -> possible if you ppl prefer this
- rewrite parser and release in new version -> I have no time, besides it sounds like a dirty solution
- leave everything as is -> this is where I currently stand

For the moment you can help yourself by changing the textstring Sh3Gen uses for icebergs, here is a repost of the fix:

All output text strings can be found in files and the "iceberg" string can be found in:

Sh3Gen\Database\Dictionary\English\Map.names

or

Sh3Gen\Database\Dictionary\German\Map.names

if you are using german as output language.

If you now look for the line

<Name Key="Iceberg">Icebergs</Name>

and change it to (for example)

<Name Key="Iceberg">Unknown</Name>

it should not bother you any more.

This tool looks pretty handy GE. Thanks for the hard work to put this together!

I hope you don't find this offensive, but I have some suggestions on the UI and additoinal options. I haven't been using SH3Gen for very long but am a somewhat established programming for some .Net languages. If you wanted some help with the project, I would look forward to the opportunity to work with you on it.

That's really nice of you, but I must dissappoint you. Due to lack of time and loss of interest, I'm no more working on this project.

Is this addon compatible with GWX 2.1?

And one question more. Should i always start the patrol and when the game begins in port, save it, close SH3 and then use SH3Gen? Or is it possible to export the data to the game between patrols?

It works fine with GWX2.1

Wait until you've started a patrol and made your first in-patrol save. Then run SH3Gen. In fact, you can run it in between in-patrol saves, as often or as little as you like.

GE I've got a problem with the map viewer here. My apologies if I missed someone else's mention of it. The viewer does not show any terrain data. I check and the file is there and is 35MB, and the layer is checked and refrences the proper file. Also, the readme mentions a default terrain file in the template base folder, but I don't see one. Any tips on fxing this issue?

[EDIT] I just thought to mention that I have the latest viewer from the site you have to register at.

Also, why not change the iceberg to something more generic such as ... drawing a blank here ... enviromental obstical?

And should i load this save to have SH3Gen incorporated in game? Or only Alt Tab game and continue to playing? Because its 7 or 10 minutes more to again load the game.
