The Base was attacked by a formation of G4M Betties, the latest in their mass attack I guess:

Afew minutes earlier and we'd have been dead in the water... no AA gun either!

USS Bubblehead getting hit by the bombs of a Japanese floatplane. Prior to this attack, the american sub was hit to the aft deck, destroying her engines and causing heavy flooding in control and engine rooms.

Unable to move or dive, the submarine had to fight off the attacking planes. Reports reveal that USS Bubblehead downed 2 and damaged 1 Japanese aircraft before slipping below the waves for the last time.

Lol, yeh. After the first plane contact (which crippled my boat), they started to pour in from every direction. The flak´s barrel was running red hot.

I've had a sub named Bubblehead too. Salmon class. It took 2 bombs from a seaplane, flooded, blow ballasted from 100m,shot down 2 enemy planes and took her last dive. Deja Vu, anyone?

On my last patrol this guy in the pic was propably looking at a plane which "kamikazed" onto my bow deck, sinking our brand new sub.
