Why do the USSR/Russian navy give equipment names rather than a title of what they do?Bukhta?Ivolga?Molybden?Kisgo?

Sorry guys been away from my computer for a few days family berievment,

reason they didnt choose to name them as to what they did was simply because the didnt want anyone knowing what they did in the first place, just gave them a tad more time to re develope.

I am reading Fire at Sea-about the loss of the Komsomolets. The crew certainly didn't get it right dealing with the problems on that one,but they were not helped by having no damage control documentation!
The names refer to antennas, compartment readiness command and information system plus a console for monitoring pumps etc.
The book contains some diagrams of submarine systems which are unfortunately unlabelled!

Point is why should you label it if you have to know it in the first place?

As for komsomolets that whole sub is still shrouded in mystery, ive had a few reports passed my way nothing top seacret nothing seacret either just independant analysts commenting thier views about it, and the damage control could have been better and thier fire fighting equipment could have been better too.

Sad story is the older generation submarines like the Delta IV Typhoons pre 90's submarines still have the same fire fighting equipment on board as did the komsomolets.

The diagrams show various systems and have obviously been labelled in the original russian. They have been labelled numerically but the book does not give a key!Does otcek=compartment? The book is a translation from the Russian and was written by D.A Romanov, one of the original design team.It can be purchased for about £15 from the usual web sources.
Romanov was the assistant chief designer for Komsomolets and obviously fell out of favour with the Soviet Navy after the loss.He lives in St.Petersburg
