Party-wise i think it is like that, in Germany: Liberals in Germany may be compared to conservatives, while at the same embracing globalization (something not all conservatives like), and expecting a completely free and unregulated market to solve all the worlds' problems. Taxes should not be paid by rich people, since they are the source of wealth, providing jobs. They are basically a party for the upper 5 percent, or less. The social democrats have a lot of good ideas, but they are all being stolen by Merkel. They want to support the citizens against greedy companies infringements and bad working conditions, something our government gave up long ago. They are not against capitalism, but they do not trust big companies. They have a lot of conservative-thinking people, but also include the further left wing, with a good number of nuts. From the classical view this was the worker's party, and the only one that openly stood up and opposed Hitler back then – and paid dearly for it. They are mostly fair, think, and criticize themselves, which is why they never have a chance. Conservatives here used to be the "classic" CDU, however Mrs Merkel just included each and every social-democratic idea in her party agenda, so that the social democrats as initiators of those ideas are by now standing in the rain, and do not know how to get out of this situation, struggling to find a clear profile. CDU is basically for a moderate government, supporting economy and not over-regulate the market. A lot of right-wing conservative voters are therefore leaving the CDU and support nut parties like the AfD and 'Pegida'. The classic conservatives are currently despairing. The Left is the political survivor of the old GDR, and while not really being on Moscow course, they of course try to justify a lot of what Russia does - even if they should know that the latter is a dictatorship, and neither a democracy nor politically "left" in any way.
