Dont have to DL mine but to save constant installs once installed I copy the data folder somewhere
Then if mess up just have to copy it over Modding generally messes up your installs so have become accustomed to copying the data folder on a regular basis ![]() Having 3 or 4 installs never helps either ![]() |

Installed SH3 fresh, works fine, deck ammo where the stock game usually is. Then I installed GWX, started a new career, 0 deck gun ammo. I discovered a folder called SH3\Data\Cfg with the Main.cfg file in it in the main SH3 directory. So it's located in Silent Hunter 3\SH3\Data\Cfg in the vanilla install, is that supposed to be like that? The same main.cfg file is missing from the Silent Hunter 3\Data\Cfg directory, and if I remember correctly that's where it was on my other computer.
This time I was smart and copied the folder onto an external harddrive, so I don't have to install it all again, so that's a plus. I just hope I can figure this out because what little time I had with GWX made me really like it and I don't want to go back to vanilla with a few generic mods. |

No its made an extra directory
As you say should be Silent Hunter 3\Data\Cfg But is in Silent Hunter 3\SH3\Data\Cfg Not sure how is managing to create itself an extra folder ![]() The installer actually removes things from your stock install as it installs so deffo where you are having a problem Smart move on the back up copy |

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Unfortunately though I stupidly uninstalled SH3 again(dumbass, I know), so I have to download it again, because I don't think copying it over to my steam folder will allow steam to recognize it. Oh well, I got other stuff to do while I wait. Hopefully this is the problem because I don't want to give up playing SH3, I love it too much.
Is there not a way to get my disc version of SH3 to run on Windows 7? |

Well, none of that worked. I did another fresh install of SH3, loaded it up, started a career, and had normal deck gun ammo. Quit the game, installed GWX, moved the data folder back where it was supposed to be, started the game, started a career, checked my deck gun, and again 0 ammo. I started multiple careers in different flotillas, different years, all the same result. I don't know what to do other then to play without GWX, which I guess I could do. There's got to be something I'm doing wrong. Either that or my copy of GWX is f**$@#d.
Do you know if there is anyway I can contact the people who made GWX and see if they know what to do? Or am I SOL? Edit: This time I also did not install SH3 Commander. The only other thing I did was to use JSGME to enable a few of the GWX mods like the 16km terrain and a few others. Edit 2: I searched the interweb for "GWX 3.0 no deck gun ammo" and found this http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=171809 Apparently I had to man the deck gun and click on the shell to load the first one. Once I did that it showed my ammo. So yippee, I'm on my way to playing SH3 again! Thanks again for all your help bigboy. Now I get to learn how to play SH3 the proper way. What sound mods do you use? I find the GWX sound kinda sucks. Except for the background chatter which is kind of cool.
Edit: Well, I just did my first patrol with GWX and got my ass handed to me. I spent the last hour trying to make it back to base with an Armed Trawler depth charging me until it ran out of charges, then it just followed me for 7 in-game hours. Finally it gave up, but near Dunkirk another ship happened upon me, this time a destroyer. Needless to say it started depth charging me for another 4 in-game hours and finally destroyed my batteries and my electric engines. With only my starboard diesel engine, I surfaced, essentially to just give up. Took about 10 seconds of me being on the surface for him to destroy me. End of that career. GWX is bloody hard. Either that or I really suck at this game. |

Is it possible to edit the max slots for the deck gun ammo? 250 rounds just isn't enough for GWX. If I edit this section of Basic.cfg will it do anything?
[SUBMARINE_AMMO2]; VIIB Type=1 Version=0 ForeTubes=4 AftTubes=1 ForeResIntern=4 ForeResExtern=1 ForeResExtra=2 AftResIntern=1 AftResExtern=1 Shellslots=10 NbYears=7 Renown=3 SNK_MASK=NSS_Uboattype7_SNK_mask So if I changed it to say 15, would I be able to add more ammo? How come when I edit the basic.cfg file, it reverts back to it's original self when I exit the game? Is it not possible to edit the file with GWX? I've tried editing the renown part where you actually get some for reaching your patrol grid and for completing your patrol, but it always reverts back. Edit: When I edit the basic.cfg file and add ammo and load the game with just the launch sh3 with gwx shortcut, it keeps the amount of ammo that I changed it to. But when I load it with SH3 commander, it reverts back to the 250. Now I know you'll say just load the game with the GWX shortcut, and that would be fine, but for some reason after every patrol I end up dead. I don't know if that's because I'm continuing a career that I started with SH3 Commander, or if it's some other reason. I would start a new career without SH3 commander, but I like to use the no fatigue option with it. I guess if I knew how to edit the fatigue to zero myself, I would just do it that way. Any suggestions? Last edited by RootBeer; 04-03-12 at 05:48 AM. |

Try the auto rollback on SH3commander
Exit the game and let it roll back then make your changes If you already have auto rollback on then try take it off If you have SH3 on a disc you could have installed that other than steam version - still NOT in the Program Files directory As for sounds there are a few about - try the subsim DL section Not used any others so couldnt say which is best Not sure on the slots edit - worth a try - last touched those files about 3 years ago so ![]() GWX isnt arcade stock anymore so get used to having your tail handed back to you. If you couldnt give an armed trawler the slip for 7 hours obv not using silent running and going deep. If you cant lose an armed trawler start of war you will have no hope in 42 or later with destroyers or frigates. Silent running, deep as you can and dont up the TC - plenty of slow turns to try and keep your smallest profile facing him. And you have been contacting someone from GWX Me ![]() Have fun |

Nice, didn't know you worked on GWX. Good job.
Yeah, I fear the later years in the war, but if I'm patient and take my time I think I'll get the hang of it. I was able to install SH3 with Windows 7, but it wouldn't run, it kept giving me this error: This application can be launched with a release version of Miscrosoft Windows 95 OSR2.1/98/ME/NT 4.0/2000/XP/ Server 2003 only. That's exactly what it said too, with the misspelled Microsoft and everything. I don't have auto rollback on, and I haven't tried rolling it back. I guess I could roll it back and then edit the file and start a new career. See if that works. I've reached my download limit with subsim for today ![]() Silent Running question, does the gramophone affect the sound signature that other ships pick up, or is it just heard on the sub? And is NYGM compatible with GWX, or do I have to run them seperately? |

No the gramaphone isnt heard outside of the sub so your ok with that
I know there are a lot of gramaphone music mods about Jimbuna has a load on his gamefront site - link in his sig Your error message is I believe because of starforce How old is the SH3 disc ? Newer versions already patched to 1.4 and are starforce free There are starforce removal posts around on here which should help as well as links to a no dvd exe http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160118 No GWX and NYGM aren't compatible. 2 separate supermods in their own right. As are LSH5 and WAC. I have 4 installs on my comp - GWX,WAC and LSH as well as a back up stock one - always messing files modding so nice to have a spare All supermods are different in their own ways and worth a play I generally stick with GWX but if I see something I like in one of the others will have a go at porting it over. Best of all worlds then. ![]() |

Thanks, I was able to install my disc version of the game, which I'd much rather use then the steam one. Though I still had the problem with dying as soon as I end a patrol. I started a patrol just to see if I had the amount of ammo I wanted, and I did, but I didn't want to play at the time, so I docked at the base and ended up dying. So I'm doing another fresh install from my dvd. Order of install: SH3, 1.4b Patch, GWX, then SH3 commander. Will know in a little bit if I'm still having the dying problem.

I finally got it to work the way I wanted it to. I have GWX installed and running, SH3 commander installed and running with the no fatigue model, I'm in the Flotilla I want, I've got the amount of ammo I wanted, and I think I've got the renown set up properly as well. I don't know yet because I haven't finished my first patrol. I also changed the difficulty so I have unlimited batteries now, which is one big reason why I got my ass handed to me. I had to surface to charge my batteries.
Just out of curiosity, how long do each of your patrols last and what difficulty settings do you play it on? Or are you even still playing SH3? |

I don't know if this will have anything to do with anything, but the GWX installation guide specifically says it must be installed over a CLEAN copy of SH3. There may be a chance that starting a career and then installing GWX is what's screwing everything up.

I was doing it over a fresh install. I must've wrote it down in the incorrect order.
