My favorite showwhen I was a kid was Dr Who, (Colin Baker era) looking back it wasnt all that appropriate

But damn Nicola Bryant (Peri) was hot.

Could also be a reference to Dostojevskis "Crime and punishment"

Haven't read that one () but given what I remember of the episode and the way it was written, I'm gonna go with Poe. It would certainly be more familiar to most Western adults, since (at least when I was in school) that story was required reading. The Russian classics, not so much.
