The first Spongebob I ever saw was one where he had these new boots that were really squeaky and Krusty couldn't stand it so he took them and hid them under the floorboards then was gradually consumed by guilt over his crime. If "The Squeaky Boots" was not a deliberate parody of Poe's "The Telltale Heart" then I would be very much surprised... at any rate, it cracked me up. Been a fan ever since.

Haven't read that one (

) but given what I remember of the episode and the way it was written, I'm gonna go with Poe. It would certainly be more familiar to most Western adults, since (at least when I was in school) that story was required reading. The Russian classics, not so much.
