Perhaps...

It definitely looks Grumman. Only thing I could find with the tail config, landing gear, bubble canopy and 4 bladed prop.

The D-Day markings were a red herring. The F8F didn't see combat service in WWII.

My first thought was maybe a Commonwealth Warraway or a Vultee Vengeance, but it doesn't look it.

I've got it in a larger file size for magnification purposes (4.13MB) but still in jpeg format because that is my camera setting of choice to get as many pics as possible on the 4GB memory card.

Unfortunately aircraft are not my forte so I honestly couldn't say.....wish I'd took shots from a variety of angles now

It didn't serve with any of the three squadrons Jim listed, but the closest match I can find so far is the Miles Martinet target tug and trainer.

Thanks for posting those fine pics of beautiful made models.

It made me remember, when I was younger and modelbuilding was one of my favorite.

those models I prefered was

1 AVRO Lancaster
2 F-15
3 F-14
4 Spitfire
5 F-18
And a few more.

Later on I got more into building military ships especially 1:350 or 1:250 scale ships from WWII and America.

My favorite was
New Jersey
Missouri
Bismarch
and som more I can't remember the name

I've tried to build, tanks lorry a.s.o, but that's wasn't me.

You know I reckon you could be spot on....save this image to desktop and magnify it (I use IrfanView).

Might be a Sea Fury or precursor to the Sea Fury.

Just had a response from my aircraft forum and apparently it is a model of a Bristol 148

http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/MAG7287

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_148

Some pictures here:

http://www.aviastar.org/air/england/bristol_148.php

http://www.airwar.ru/enc/other2/bristol148.html

Looking at the picture Steve post I reckon you could still argue it isn't a Bristol 148 at all
