Default How do I save?

Any tips on how to save in this game? I keep saving while exploring, but every time I load a save, I end up not where I left the game, but at the previous point in the story, which often forces me to sit through a cutscene or dialogue yet again.

After liberating the first enemy outpost, I ignored game's repeated commands to talk to Dr. Earnhardt and instead went exploring, thinking that this was a actually an open-world game, and I could do what I want. When I would load those saves, though, I would start right back at the outpost.

So I finally gave in, found the doctor, and completed the quest he gave me. I then patiently listened to the phone call re: the Medusa, and set off again to explore. I saved, loaded, and was right back at the house, and had to listen to the phone call yet again.

Please tell me this is just because I'm only 1-2 hours into the game, and it feels that the excessive player aids aren't enough - I need to be shown exactly where to go, too - but that it will finally quit this crap after a while. Because right now, this open world means absolutely nothing if I can't save my location and status in it.

You always have to listen to phone calls when you load the game. It's not the game forgetting, it's just a way to keep you on track with the story after you load a save, which can be annoying, but isn't a bad thing if you spend a while away from the game or play multiple games at once.

As for returning to the house, the game returns you to the nearest safe house when you load a save. It doesn't save your actual position. It's just like Far Cry 2 or Grand Theft Auto, but without forcing you to return to the point to save. This is typical in Open World games of this type. Your progress is however saved.

You're right, it is like GTA in that regard. What threw me was the expansiveness of the world - it just beckons to be explored, but unlike Skyrim which encourages exploration, FC3 discourages it with the save system.

It also discourages replays. I played some sections of Far Cry 1 and Crysis over and over again, trying different approaches and tactics, just for fun. You can't do that in Far Cry 3.

I just cleared the Medusa, and my wish to do it undetected was stymied by the very last enemy. In other games, I could reload a save and do it again, but not in FC3 - my previous save was from the day before (I tried to save it earlier, but couldn't because the mission had already started), and the autosave was already written over.

This article kind of sums up my view of it.

List of mods:

http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...-for-Far-Cry-3

I'm using Compilation 1.6, which removes tagging and the wallhack, the minimap (I love how it marked the location of absolutely everything, even underwater plants - heaven forbid we have to look for things ourselves), the objective indicators, and the stupid glow emanating from interactive objects. It also makes the gun play harder, and gives more weapons and more attachments.

I really like the co op in this game.

Like alot...

I am nasty with a silenced sniper rifle (z98 or something like that? The .50cal one) and a bow. My close work? I prefer the last LMG you unlock (forgot the name) Loud work at least.

Silent I go for takedowns, and the MP5 silenced.

I am a freaking ghost!

Shoot one guy and scoot and hide, then kill another, repeat and rinse, key to this game. Even with a silencer, they seem to pinpoint you based on your shot.

Edit: sometime in the mid game when you craft your 4th weapon slot, save a place for the grenade launcher. (the noob toob is boss)

Also why do signature weapons suck?

Got this game for Christmas and been playing it since but......

But I have a problem or I think it is, I wanted to travel south in the patrol boat to open a radio tower but it said I was out of bounds (or something like that) is this a glitch or do I have travel by land or do more of the main quest to stop this. Any help will be much appreciated.

You unlock the southern Islands later in the story. (points up to Boss' post)

Guns guns guns!

Tell me Vaas is not one of the coolest villains?!

Oh and watch out for Citra, she is a black widow spider.

This is one of those games where you can feel like a "bad-ass" by your own actions.

Last night I completed a radio tower, jumped off and opened the wing suit you unlock later in the game. Glided towards a check point. I silent snipe off a few of the outside units, sneak in and use the machete to finish off the other units, using combo take-downs and the knife take-downs.

I ran into a strange problem. I've downloaded Far Cry 3 using Steam and now I can only play it in Direct X 9 mode which runs extremely crappy (and why do I have to use U-Play when I'm already using Steam???). I've read that I have to start the game using the farcry3_d3d11.exe for DirectX11 but then U-play always asks me for the CD-key which is strangely enough not the CD-key that Steam gave me. However when I start the game through Steam I get redirected to U-Play and can normally start it...in DirectX9...with the CD-Key from Steam...
Does anyone else have the same problem or a solution?

I'm on the first island still, in fact I've only done the first mission, I've not even been to that Doctor dude yet, I'm sure taking my time clearing out the outposts and radio towers around the first island. Been quite fun so far, but just had a moment that made me laugh.

I was travelling to an outpost to take it down, as I got near I jumped out of my car, which promptly sailed over the cliff near the outpost, landed in the middle of the outpost, caught fire and then exploded, killing three of the bad guys nearby, the explosion of the car then also released a bear that had been caged, which then proceeded to wipe the rest of the bad guys out.

Base cleared, not detected, no alarms triggered and not a single shot fired!

Of course, there's the slight problem of the angry bear wandering around the base, but that's not my problem that's the Pakrats problem, or whatever they call themselves.
