Default Interesting buildings.

I love old buildings and skyscrapers. Here I live in Winston Salem NC and never knew the Empire State Building was built off the same plans and designs as the Reynolds building here. The Empire even sends the Reynolds a fathers day card each year.

One of my favorites here locally:

At one point Union Terminal was abandoned and partially destroyed but it was declared a historic site before they could tear down what's left. Now restored and houses two of our local museums plus an Omnimax theater.

Here is one of the UK's largest nuthouse...we even built a clock on it so the inmates will never need reminding what time they should doze till.

A reply to Jim, here's Slovenias biggest nuthouse

The building itself is interesting. Solid Bronze artwork around the entrances. And there's no no-passing zone, so one can come to a meter from the artwork and take pictures.
And the inside is quite beautiful, with frescos on the walls

I have to say, there are few things that can make one laugh more then some good British humor or wit.

Rock Hall:

And the peter B lewis building:

There was a gunman that holed himself up in that building about 7 years ago. I talked to some of the Cleveland SWAT guys who responded, they HATED that building. All their tactics were based on right angles, doorway entry, etc. Apparently this building was designed with no right angles on the inside. It was giving them fits.

The Museum of Civilization in the foreground, and in the background - the Canadian Parliament and other historic buildings in central Ottawa. Spent a lot of time commuting back and forth around this area when I lived in Ottawa.

Also in town, the new Canadian War Museum. Really an awesome space, one of the best military history museums anywhere. The big "shard" sticking out of the building is part of a memorial arrangement that lines up to project a ray of sunlight on the original headstone of Canada's Unknown Soldier from WWI which is stored there, every year exactly at 11:11am every November 11th.

Los Angeles has destroyed most of its older, unique archtecture in the name of development. There are a number of walking tour routes in the city that have stops where one can see the site of a building that used to be there but only lives on as a photograph on site marker. A large proportion of the remaining buildings are originally commercial buildings that have long ago seen their glory days. This building I saw for the first time many, many years ago when I first visited Los Angeles. I saw it as we were speeding along the freeway; I thought it was perhaps a civic building or cultural site; Iasked what it was and was told it was a tire factory. Now it functions as a mixed-use property, mainly as a major garment outlet store. It is called "The Citadel" and is made to resemble an Assyrian Palace in design.

The building is immense and the facade extends over 1,700 feet.
