Garion is correct: Xerox's PARC development center did create the first GUI but they did not copyright, patent, or otherwise claim their creation. It was shown freely and publicly to other interested parties (e.g., Apple, MS) and Apple did use it first. When MS started to use the GUI in Windows, Apple sued MS claiming MS stole the "look & feel" from Apple. In court, MS referred back to the Xerox demonstration and Apple's "adaptation" of the GUI. The court ruled Apple had no cliam to the GUI and, with the exception of a couple of desktop icons, dissallowed Apple's claims.

Windows 7 is a very good OS. Vista and Windows ME are the fail OSes by MS imho. Linux Ubuntu if your going to go Linux as a first timer.

Microsoft launched the first release candidate for Windows 7 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 in late October of last year.
The company also promised that SP1 would arrive in the "first half" of 2011. Earlier this week, Microsoft released KB 976902 through its Windows Update software before having the knowledge base article to explain what the update was for. It was an update to the Windows stack to get the OS ready for future updates, something the company did ahead of the SP1 Beta back in July. SOURCE Shouldn't be too far away ![]() |

Make that another one.
I can see the specialism in Macs, but I don't understand why to the average consumer it is hailed as great - along with the price. The versitility and cost of PC ownership outweighs anything Apple can throw my way, and Win7 is the best, most stable platform for PC at the moment. Sure it has it's little foibles but what doesn't? And I wouldn't have an iPhone, happy with my Android HTC, but then I wouldn't have a Windows Phone 7 just yet either. The views of the author are displayed above. Should Apple, or any other technology company, wish the author to use their equipment at little or no cost to the author then the author is both willing and able to amend the above views and be called a hypocrite ![]()
