I still feel that that gentle "tink, tink, tink" on my sub's hull isnt very frightening .... even though I see the hull integrity falling. Maybe its due to me only being in the 'happy times' but.....
Where are we on this? - Anyone really experience the fear factor from aircraft yet in SH5? |

The aircraft deployment model hasn't worked well for the entire Silent Hunter franchise. As this is a Subsim, The Devs quite rightly concentrated on that aspect first, followed by the surface vessel A.I.
It looks as though they consistently ran out of time before being able to properly develop the aircraft model. I don't know what the modding community can do to fix this? We've already asked so much of them. Quite frankly; I paid full price (£35) for SH5 and the game was maybe 70% complete. To be fair to the Devs, some amzing ground-work was layed in that 70%. Had they been given enough time, SH5 was on track to be an incredible piece of work.

I think our breath takingly hard working modding community will work on this area and will go on modding SH5 in general simply because the game has come such a long way since launch... and therefore they can see new potential in the new game after all the fixes.
Also, people always love to be creative about something they are passionate about... and I think we have a very dedicated set of people who love to unleash their creativity on something they really care about. If I had any idea how to .... I know I would for sure be in there with them. |

Further thinking :
Here's maybe something that could be easily changed to help make aircraft something to fear (rather than just an inconvenient, annoyance as they seem now) Simply increase the hull damage done per shell impact from aircraft. (Mods were made to do that for depth charges...so why not aircraft cannon shells?) In any case , Im sure a real U boat couldnt stand up to THAT many accurate straffing runs ? maybe just 1 or 2? |

As in Sh3 and SH4?
It almost seems as if the Devs did not understand the Damage stuff. So we hobble along and correct things. The aircraft may use shells that are used by other weapons. A general altering can cause unwanted effects. Check carefully then make adjustments. Or better yet? Create new shells used by aircraft only. Then you can adjust without effecting other weapons damages. |

I've started rewriting the scripts for the AI....hopefully I can fix the problems with them. It took me awhile to figure out the 'language' of the AI but now it's pretty easy. They (devs) gave a lot of power to the programmers for the AI. We should be able to make them do anything we want. Testing so far is quite positive
