ViiD minelayer - only available as a mod, but in RL it has extra fuel due to it's extra length and could roam across the pond near the US and lay mine but still maintain the full torp loadout/firepower of Vii and apparantly the extra length allowed for extra ammenties ie refridgerated food storage.

IXD2 of course! She can take you to the other side of the world becouse of her large fuel tanks!

XXI is lamest, becouse she has no deck gun or ass tube.

My favorite submarine is the Typ VIIC Klasse, may not be the best but it is for me. I usually patrol the grids of AM and AN as well.

VIIC is rated number 1 on top 10 submarines on discovery channel

But I don't really know the difference between VIIB and C... If B is so much better than C, why make C?

The Type C was open to more improvements such as range and armaments etc.

IXB is my addiction. I like to hunt convoys around BC43 (West of Canada).
Shadowing and sending contact reports so all the VIIB and VIIC drivers know what's coming their way, and when to expect it. I have to travel in the same direction, and at about the same speed, as the convoys anyway, so why not help my mates out with some intel?

My second choice is the VIIB. For that, AM53 is the place to be. Well at least until the RAF wakes up. Then AM19 (Rockall Bank) suits me just fine.

Third choice is the IXC. By this time I'm usualy just trying to follow orders, do my grid, and survive.

I prefer the VIIC.

Alternatively would a VIIB OK too.

My third sub would be the IXB for longer distances.

No love for the type II?
In my new career I am trolling around the North Sea just east of Scotland in a IIA.
She's slow. Has got no range. No deck gun. Only 5 eels. Looks like a toy boat.
Strangely enough I have come to love that little boat. Using it to earn my way up to a VII. Only another 2 patrols I reckon. But when I trade up I'm sure gonna miss that little thing!

One thing you won't miss is it's awful depth keeping. At low speeds the top of the conning tower ends up poking out of the water when set at periscope depth. The VII is far better in that respect.

Funny you should say that. Not something I ever noticed before. All my attacks this career have been in atrocious weather.
But today waiting for a target, doing 1 knot a periscope depth in dead calm seas I noticed the top of my conning tower butting above the surface. Had to manually order a depth of 12 metres, even then it barely kept at 10, just beneath the surface.
Bring on the VII! Just 1 more patrol, I'll have enough saved up.

I agree that it certainly offers a challenge
Makes you think about your targets

Type VIIB probably.
But I think the IID is a nifty little boat. Just a bit short on eels.
