![]() ![]() ![]() Last week I was in Northern Germany near Kiel where I visited the U-995. I thought I'd share some pics with you. First time for me on a real U-boot and it was cool, pity you can't get to the bridge or deck... http://www.warmuseums.nl/gal/061gal.htm ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Were the pistons (if thats the name) in the engine room painted in their original color or this is to make the diffrent components stand out ?

I think those are valve rockers but I am by no means a specialist. I have no idea if these colors were used, I always thought there were read or otherwise the same color as the engine block.

I was thinking the same, probably they were painted nowdays to be protected from rust.

great photo of U-862's 'wingarten' area and weapon arrangement. the ammunition feeder of the M42 is just visible at the bottom. are those the 2cm AA guns shown? or the larger calibre?

The blue items are the valve (or lifter) "rods" (same as in car engines) - the valve "rocker" is the horizontal lever on top. From this picture can be deduced that these diesels are "top-valved", as opposed to side-valved (flatheaded). While this museum engine is painted in stark blue I am not sure they were so in real life. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hope these are bigger Kaleuns. the boat was cut into 4/5 pieces. the insides are rusted away. you can not go inside. seems a shame to cut up such a beautiful boat.... but there you go. hope these links work, they tell a bit more info about the ol' boat... http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/1/h...es/7230098.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/em/fr/-/1/h...de/7230011.stm

Found these uploaded by a contact of mine on flickr recently:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/siimvah...7621914697415/ While there's no Uboat pictures there are alot of shots from the war period ranging from life back home (that the uboat men were missing so much) and pictures from the eastern front, greece etc. I thought you lot might be interested.
