Strange. I never see an airplane from my submarine. They've been known to hurt people and are best avoided. If they were all paper airplanes I'd never know it.

It's always going to be a matter of personnal choice
as to how we run our games.
I remember stories my Grandfather told of the Corsairs from Guadacanal
to Iwo Jima.
And he was a ground pounder.
When I pop scope?
I should see the proper aircraft.
The allied aircraft in SH4 are sorely lacking for me.
And as we now have the U-boat add-on?
Again, lacking.

My late great uncle used to tell me about the Corsairs. He was a seabee and would help build the mesh metal runways. I sure miss him, I was just a young boy when he was still alive, I would love to talk with him again.

I know what you mean.
My Grandfather passed away over 30 years ago.
He was a bit on the gruff side I always thought.
I know better now.

JU-88, Ref, and Tomi
(just to name a few)
Blow me away!!!

Those guys and more can build some serious stuff!!

But I try my best.
And keep getting better.

I do use several programs to help build things.
One program will do the aircraft wings stuff.
Another is for ships hulls.
I pretty much tell them what I want?
They do the work.

I always loved Corsairs. I got to work on an F2G back in 1984 that was being restored. What an awesome plane that could kill its pilot several different ways before it ever left the flight deck. Seriously overpowered, seriously nose heavy, I believe it was never supposed to be dived below a certain number of degrees or it couldn't come out of the dive.

It was made for one purpose: to gain altitude quicker than any plane in history. It did that at the expense of just about every desirable flying characteristic.

Most of them were wrecked after the war when they were favorite planes for air racers.

As a submariner, though, all airplanes are evil. Even our airplanes are avoided as they have been known to attack their own submarines. Because of my radar I never have to see one, and I believe I and my crew live because we do not. Unlike the poor U-Boat crews, we need never use our anti-aircraft guns for anything more than decoration, and unless we are very unlucky, planes are not a part of our fight.

Isn't it amazing that in a submarine simulation we can mod the airplanes? The amount of flexibility Ubi gave to players is still amazing to me. It's why I play games on a PC instead of a console. It's also why game companies would rather make games for consoles. Many of them hate modding. I think modders are what make games wonderful.

@Privateer

For the texturing part, I think this might be handy. It's an template of the Corsair for IL2, it should have all the panel lines etc. on different layers.

If you want custom skins for the Corsair, try the IL-2 skins either at simmerspaintshop.com or look around the skinning forum over at Ubi.

Thanks for all the input Guys.
I have a skin built from a stock CFS2 unit that is looking
pretty good for a starter.

I'll have another rendering useing this modified template tonite.
It impresses me!
I can't wait to see what someone who knows what they are doing
does to it.

here's a little better view of the new skin.
Don't know where the shadow came from?
But I'll post more latter theis evening.

Today as I was speeding down the road, I was thinking of the B-29 you are ultimately attempting to get into the game. My thoughts here were what a great addition for late war lifeguard patrol that the submarines did. When the B-29's were dropping bombs on mainland Japan, the subs were there to pick up any downed crew. This aspect of the game would be a great. I can imagine the armada over head as we sit and wait for the return leg on the bomb run handling lifeguard duty. That would be very cool.

When we talk about adding Allied aircraft to SH4, We tend to forget
about that additional aspect of adding them.
Of course the Scripting guys would need to get busy!!

Gotta shoot them down before we can rescue the crews!!

And as a side?
This works for the U-boat add-on also!!
Gotta fish those pilots outta the drink also.

Once you get that Corsair fired up you'll be fishing Japanese out of the drink.
