Not exactly. Look at the perpetrators, almost always students or former students.
In Universities, yes. This is because the students know the layout and exactly where they are going.

Mall crazies typically are non U students using this same logic.

THey go where they are familiar and not challenged.

Most of the time, any suicide note/video left behind mentions other students, or the motive for the shooting is bound up in the killers' experiences at the school/university. I doubt the choice of location is entirely due to it being a gun-free zone.

It has a lot to do with it. Where it differs can be found in mall shootings. They leave notes to the same degree, but target random people in the mall. Much can be looked at in the U killings too - they pretty much kill random people. THere is no real target other than to hurt as many people as possible.

Removing gun free zones removes some of the freedom to do what they want to do as well. All a sudden, they are not guaranteed to be able to accomplish what they want to accomplish (the killing of as many people as possible) without worry that someone will possibly stop them.

You might call this - A deterrance.

Anyway, I'm just sick of these whackos. I usually don't carry a gun, but I usually don't wind up in places that you wouldn't want to be without one. Malls and Universities however always leave one with that feeling that someone is going to exploit this place when you stroll through one though.

PS. The bad news is, with our single mothers (5 times more liekly to have children who end up incarcerated) and our declining morals and increasing pressures - I think this all will get worse before it gets better, if it ever gets better.

Just my 2 cents.

A student who attended my former high school and graduated in 2006 was killed in the shooting. Such a tragedy.

As for Jolly Old England, the UK has surpassed the US in all crimes, except for murder and rape. Shootings happen in the UK, as well as the US, but we still get the "stupid cowboy" moniker. The fact is that if everyone packs heat, or even if 50% of people pack heat, a criminal will think twice, because there's a 1 in 2 chance of looking down the barrel of the would-be-victim's gun.

I always shake my head when I see a store or restaurant post a "no weapons" sign in their front window. If I was a robber, that would be my first stop. These campus gunmen know that most people will be easy targets, because of the campus rules. I agree that it does take a sick mind to do something like this for "glory" or similar notoriety to the 1920's gangsters, the Columbine shooters, etc.
Could you provide dat for this? Are you basing this on crimes per 1000 people? I'd like to see the stats as I find this hard to believe.

Come on SubMan1. Don't you know that the gun talks to you and tells you to kill everyone? It's the Amitygun Horror.

Seriously, if you have a deranged person that is intent on killing a bunch of people and knows there is no way people can defend themselves from that because it is a gun free zone, that wack-job will get a gun regardless of laws.
