just to make it clear ---> i would be last one to complain about meeting few ships or convoys (after hundreds hours spent with SHIII and Grey Wolves), bmho there is way too much enemy ships anyway I complained about buggy behaviour after even 1.2 patch and game is out for couple of months....

those list of mods is interesting but it should have been incorporated in patch, I dont want to spend half of day downloading and installing them.

anyway thank so much for the config edit on range on current speed!!!!

I miss my control over the periscope where I can adjust it in SH3 but in SH4 it's straight up and down no half way house.

But on the upside I agree the crew management is better in SH4 over SH3 but I use SH3C so I don't have that bother anymore.

And thanks to the mod guys who came out with the green button on option.

I have no idea why people keep saying this. The attack periscope only goes up and down as long as you press and hold the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys. Same with the Observation scope and the Insert/Delete keys. So yes, you can indeed have a periscope that's halfway up or down.

Are you sure you're not pressing the Ctrl key along with the Page Up/Down keys?

Actually, you can. If you use the PgUp/PgDn keys, you can manually control the attack periscope and the Insert/Delete keys control the obs. 'scope. You can set them to whatever height you desire.

My irritation is a passive-aggressive crew that won't say "hey, captain we've been at battle stations 3 days".

My thoughts on this are you're the captain and it is your responsibility to relieve the men from battle stations. IMHO it gives just a tad bit more of making the command choices.

Welcome aboard Crapgame!

Welcome crapgame

It may not be perfect, but it is a step up from SH3, that was micro-managing.

Well it's hardly surprising some people are frustrated, as the docs with the game give bugger-all in the way of assistance.

For me, the radar snafu, the crappy AI and some of the graphics glitches (flying subs and ships in big seas, not to mention the fact that my crew seems to hide in the boat whenever there are any waves around....) make it hard for me to get into it.

Fix the radar and the AI and I might get sufficiently encouraged to try again.

Sure, the crew management is 1,000 times better than SHIII (although I find my crew always massively fatigued upon loading a saved game) and the graphics are better (with some qualifications....especially in big seas and the diving/surfacing behaviour.....ever noticed your boat really doesn't pitch at all, even diving?), but the really important stuff is still not good enough for me.

Call me fussy, but I find the idea of getting ALL those mods and installing them (and I have done quite a few of them) and still having ****ty AI etc means it isn't worth the effort, but that's just me.

Maybe 1.3 will change that. I'm not holding my breath, and I stopped playing some time ago.

Are I was referring to the switch by the scope in SH3 which is not in SH4.

Sorry folks should had said that in the first place.

one would expect that developers take hard lesson from previous SH and communicty and SHIV would be virtually flawless but reality is just the other way around sadly...

Actually the developers do feel that way. However the producers (UBI) set an artifical time table to get the product on the shelf before the close of the quarter.

And "virtually flawless" ? give me a break.
