Here is my latest update log. I count 40 updates:
I only see ten actual security updates. Several updates there are not exploit-patching updates and are just routine downloads - malicious software removal tool, definition updates, and junk filter for example. And even more are for software other than Vista itself - you have a lot there for Office 2007. I think there are only actually four updates there for Vista security.
The actual number is 22 that are Vista specific, with 14 being labled as important - and most of those 14 being security related. Just because they say it is for IE for example - that is the core of Vista and it is a Vista update! Kind of creative that they do that as a way to hide Vista vulnerabilities, but thats not the point. The point is you already half the patches as you have for XP, and with 40 total, you are still stuck in update hell. I thought this was expected to be a lot less on Vista??!! From what I am seeing, it is actually more on a month per month basis!

I'm blown away by the number of Office patches too for 2007 already.

PS. Let me boot up an XP machine and count. I know its a lot more, but it is also several years worth - not months worth.

OK...so I'm now in my first week of using Vista, and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised...I like the OS a lot more than I thought I would, and I have to say that the memory hit is just not that bad. With FF running, I'm using 29% of my memory, not all that much more than the 25% I used to get with XP. Overall, I'm pretty happy with it so far.

P.S.: I like Aero...it's pretty slick.

Great! I need to use my Autocad LT 2005/2006 and it 'has known problems with Vista'! Is this never ending on what doesn't work with this software?

I need to do a drawing!!!! Ughhh!

Solution includes - upgrading 'again'. Upgrading a business user to Vista could be a multi thousand dollar affair it would seem. It is becoming that way with me!
