Post your specs for your 'puter if you have CTDs with SH4. I believe the cause comes from that not SH4... other than the "A" key. The minimum specs Ubi has on the box is barely good enough to run it. The recommended spec and higher are the way to go so it runs without CTDs.

My 'puter is 2 1/2 years old and the main upgrade I made was a GFX card. While I had Sh4 installed it ran fine with good frame rates with a P4 3.2E, 2gb DDR 400 RAM and a new 6800XTreme 256mb DDR3, 256 bit card. The other upgrade was to a 200gb Maxtor SATAII HDD cause my 120gb Maxtor SATA died on me.

I played since the beginning with the 1.2 patch and have only had one CTD if you can call it that. It was actually a bit more. I tried to go to the nav map and suddenly my monitor turned off and went to power saving mode. My speakers started producing this heinous high pitched squeal and my computer was completely unresponsive. I waited a bit then figured all was lost and rebooted with the power button. Thankfully this has happened only once. It was probably something on my end anyway, not the game. Damn internet porn...

What the hell.... where are all the "this game is unplayable" posts ?

Ive only had two CTD's one was when I pressed the A key to see if it would and it did (fixed).

The other who knows (shrug) most llikely a virus scan or something of that sort interrupting.

Twice with 1.2

Both times coming out of heavy TC and trying to go to a 3D view, like the bridge or periscope view.

Oh, and a BSOD once, but that was due to a failing disk, not related to SHIV.

I uninstalled SH4 leaving no folders to exist and then did a defrag of my computer after having specific CTDs at the same specific times in a campaign not to mention even starting to have them online as well. I reinstalled SH4 and did not run it. I then promptly applied patch 1.2 and the problem persisted. So, I redid everything again by uninstalling game and defraging computer and applied patch 1 followed by patch 1.2. It played for a few days but then went from being a specific CTD at a specific time to now being random CTDs although maybe not as bad, usually when coming out of TC in map room. I always reduce TC to normal though before going to bridge from map room. The last time I had CTD was yesterday when I was closing in on Japan and I got a notice while in the map room that aircraft was spotted. It reduced me to normal time and then I chose to go to periscope depth and BANG! CTD!

I’m not a computer wizard here; real estate and development is my business. It just seems to me though that a game that demands much more system requirements to run would not run as good as a game that has less requirements like SH4 for example. If the CTDs that people are experiencing with SH4 are not related to the game’s design then why could I run IL2 for many years in the past on the borderline computer that I had back then and never experience one CTD? I can also now run Armed Assault Combat Operations on my present system (not that I am particularly fond of that game) and I never have a CTD and it requires more system specs than does SH4. I don’t buy into the notion that it is just a computer hardware issue. That may have something to do with it but IMHO it is more because of the way that the game was put together and designed in the first place. Just my ideas!

not exactly, but worse it re-booted my machine. of course i hate that. but there have been a few games that do that since i got the new rig.

only one game reboots it regularly, and i dont play that anymore obviously. it was a well known issue with the nvidia drivers. as far as i know the world still waits for new drivers from them....

SH4 only did it once so far, while loadng a save game. it just took a little longer, and suddenly was re-starting.

Default CTD's

My first CTD was on Day 1 (23/03/07), too many sequential key presses, ergo my error.
"2nd was 'A' key, tried it for laughs.
Subsequently no CTD's or BSOD's nor any 'SAVE 'game issues to date, submerged or otherwise. (touches wood, avoiding splinters in head). Have only run game on 1024x768 res with most of the eye candy switched off as monitor does'nt support much higher. New monitor stolen by daughter).

Edit Me and my big mouth, within an hour or so of this post a CTD !!! Reloaded the save game and was all OK..

I had this happen to me as well. Only issue is that I don't remember exactly what I did. I issued a command then bam! CTD.

What I'm thinking here is the game engine has not been optimized yet. Just a thought on that and stability.
