Yeah Jim, that's the value I changed...I changed it to 15,1 - same as in the badweatherguns-mod I have found on my HD. Gonna test it in a moment.

I have to admit though I did get caught later after hitting a convoy. I had about 5 friends circling above...splash splsh...BOOM, sank like a brick got some screens will post them later.
I've also encountered a TF, just as I left the Norwegian fjords on my 1st XXI-patrol.
I planned to attack warships instead of cargos, but the TF was already to far away (>18km) for me to intercept...they were going to fast.
So I tried to get their attention: switched the radar on, send a radio-message, went to ahead-flank, even showed them our broad-side on their radar....no reaction!

So I ended up keeping their course on the map, and will wait for them on their inevitable return to the area.

My TypeXXI BadWeatherGuns mod works fine.

Question:

Can a key be modded-in that extracts/retracts the forward diving planes, AND alter the XXI's seakeeping accordingly?
And maybe even further: is there a way, to tell the helmsmen to set the forw.diving plane to max.up (at "max-surface") and keep it there as long as I want to?
As I see things, this should help keeping the bow up...in GWX 1.03, the XXI has a strange rough-seas behaviour. As if it doesn't have enough boilancy.
Sometimes, the watch-crew has several meters of water above their heads, and still going deeper...and they stay there, but you can hear the diesels gasping for air.

I know this is a stock SH3-issue, that has been coped with in several ways.
But in the case of the XXI, the current 1.03-settings turn out weird.
The stern is fine....it's the bow that freaks out.

That is in fact how it behaved in real life....not too dissimilar to a SSN of today. The boat was designed primarily for underwater travelling

I found out, that the XXI sails much better at surface, when I go decks-awash.
The forw.diving-planes stay extracted, and help to keep the boat stable...and fuel-consumption isn't a big deal, as the hull-design actually helps in this condition.

One thing, though: I went to decks-awash while surfacing...that way, the forw.planes didn't retract.
I wouldn't be surprised (haven't tried yet), if they stayed retracted, when going to decks-awash from fully-surfaced.

Now I'm trying to find a way, to have the FuMB37 Leros on the schnorkel in July'44...can someone help me?

I have a personal policy when playing this game that I have not played U-Boats (with a few exceptions) until I can get them in a career. Makes it sort of a reward to take out a new model if I have survived that long. And while playing GWX dead is dead I have not survived any longer then late 1942, yet. But I hope I'll survive long enough this time to set sail in a brand new Klasse XXI U-Boot in 1944. Something to look forward to!

I had the same policy, untill SH4 came close to release.
I already had it on preorder for weeks, when I realized I had never tried the XXI, not even in a single-mission!
So I promised myself, to make sure to get it, before SH4 would take over all my sub-time.

So I started a new career - Bergen '42 this time - with the goal to make it to the XXI in the end.
But playing DID as well, my career ended during the 5th patrol, in Jan.'43.

Meanwhile, SH4 came out, and I cancelled the preorder, just in time (1 day left lol)...maybe I'll get it, when it's fully patched.

Now I've started the same Bergen'42-career again...we're on our 4th patrol, 55.000BRT on our account with a few fish left, but still a long and dangerous way to go, towards the XXI.
But then I used SH3Commander, and saw that I would get the XXI in July'44...aha! that's 10months 'till the war ends! Nice.
I'm still on my 1st XXI-patrol: first did a thorough test off the Norwegian coast, then completed our patrol-orders (grid AF87 LOL!), then missed a taskforce by only a couple of hours, but decided to take the boat all the way to Murmansk, because that's where the TF was heading, and I know it will return back to the south eventually...this time, we will be waiting for them!

I personally do not see any reason to buy SH4 at the time since I prefer and are more interested in the U-Boats. And thanks to the tremendous efforts of the GWX team SH3 has become such a great game.

Gute jagd mit deine neue XXI Paajtor!

Exactly...GWX is the reason I'm still enjoying SH3...it's the only game I'm playing for serious right now.

But the TypeXXI still needs work...it's a shame, that it was delivered in such an unfinished state, allthough I wonder how much better it can be, without access to the source-code?

Those forw.diving-planes are the 1st concern, imo...they really need a manual-operation option.
2nd - imo - is the radar (FuMO64) switching-off in rough seas all the time > really annoying. I'm using seasonal waves in SH3Com.
3rd is the submerged topspeed...21kts is a little over the top.
4th: when in silent-running, at 30m depth, then order to surface, and secure from silent-running, the boat starts to dive - probably to crash-dive depth (my previous order)...I need to order Surface again.

That's why I named the topic XXI GWX...I hope the GWX-devs are reading.
I realize the XXI isn't the most popular subject, because "it never saw real combat", but in the end to me it's all about roleplaying...and the XXI is a nice subject for this, as it gives me such freedom.
And after all, it's a great thing that GWX still can pull new stuff out of SH3, after 3 years! It makes me want more!

Please, GWX-devs...I hope you put the XXI on your things-to-do list.
Not that I'm dissatisfied with what I have right now.
But I have the feeling it can get better.

The official Überboat gets a sticky...while we already have it here!

Gute Jagd, Ubåtskapten!

P.s. the question about the FuMB37 Leros still stands...

Next, I want to see what I can improve about the XXI-skin...haven't forgotten the skinning-tutorial that Danlisa posted in this thread .

Thx to Danlisa's skinning-pdf, I found the location of the XXI-pinup: it's in one of the .dat-files, in data/interior/NSS_Uboat21_RR.dat.
I found it, using SH3-Unpacker.

I tried to find a value to change the availability of the FuMB37-Leros (or the FuMO-64 Hohentwiel....still not quite sure which one I would get on the schnorkel!), using the same program, but couldn't find anything.
So I tried SH3-Minitweaker, but I have no idea which tweak-file to load...and suppose I knew which, then I wouldn't know how to proceed.
I tried Sensors_dat.txt, but I see no date-value.
I'm puzzled!

Btw, the forw.diving-planes keep behaving weird...sometimes, they extract when I dive, but sometimes they refuse to do so. I can't pinpoint the cause.
Can SH3-Minitweaker be used, to change this behaviour?

No problem, Kpt.
I just wondered, if the GWX-team had any plans for the XXI-v1.04, as more players seem to take it for a ride, exploring the boundaries of this sim, so to speak.

If you need my assistance, just PM me.
