It's like a new pair of shoes...

At first they feel wrong, and you want the old pair back, but after a while they are quite comfy.

The other problem is that we are probably comparing SHIII patched to 1.4 with the GWX mod, to vanilla SHIV with only patch 1.1.

I am getting a CTD every time I use the 'maintain depth' button, and the inteface is different, and that takes getting used to.

So, I might stick with GWX until such a thing exists for SHIV and it's on patch 1.4... I do miss the torpedo solution screen. I found that really helped.

SH4 Yay! SH3 Yay!

I played AOD and SH1 careers side by side, and I'll continue to do the same with modern graphics and sounds. I'll take both, thank you.

And there was no option for that.

Sh4 is a baby, he saw the light of the world a few days ago.

SH3/GWX was a baby when he was born ... But now, he is a very powerfull adult, and i hope he will still grow up.

I'm pretty sure SH4 will become a wonderful subsim. If the devs and the modders do the same (at last) than the SH3 story, we will have a tremendous game. It has the potential to rocks.

For the moment, the thing that bother me in SH4 is the AI ... They are really stupid and not a challenge. But i just begin to play with though. The challenge in GWX is an other story.

If you like SH3, then get SH4. Simple. There are not so much good sims in the market. It is stupid for me to opposed the 3 Vs 4 and the pro 3 Vs pro 4 .. Same family ( i hope so ..)

Yea go ahead and get it.

Contrary to what youve been reading its actually a pretty solid title. Just dont press "A".

Ahem... anyhow yea the green blobies are algae/seaweed whatever and it is a welcome addittion to the sterile waters found in SH3.

The biggest change is the way you interact with the game ie its interface it takes a while to get used to but once you do I think you will like it better.

When I first got the game I played for about 15 minutes looking for "How in the hell do I plot a course !!!" I had dropped the interface screen (numpad del). All the other tools were there but no plot course.

While on the topic of tools a few of them are titled a little dubiously... They are parallel rules not a ruler and its a divider not a compas.

And what the heck does that "Tool helper" little compas thing do ?

By all means get SH4, especially if you have a PC that will allow you enjoy the additional eye-candy. And it's a new theater to play in, after all.

But.. at present SH3/GWX is comfortably the better product, IMHO. SH4 doesn't do anything important that SH3 doesn't do, and in it's present shape it doesn't do properly a lot of things that SH3 does. It's not a "bug ridden POS", but it is broken in places. SH4 is prettier, but in all honesty not much; certainly when you've finished playing with the external views. Even some of the difference is primarily just the 'cinematic' lighting effects and I still can't decide if they actually look any better or not.

A year down the line SH4 will be the better product when the devs have fixed it (which, to be fair, they seem determined to do) and the modders have played around with and added to it. At present, though, after a dabble I've gone back to SH3. I'll try SH4 again when the next patch is released.

Another Necro-Poll that someone dredged up with a single vote.

Say goodnight, Gracie.
