Default Greetings

A hello to all you submarine captains out here!!
My cousin gave this game on account that "It's not my thing" (he said) so i was glad to take it off his hands after seeing some nice presentations about it. I haven't played a submarine simulator before, only airplane or racing simulators and i must say that it;s not what i expected.....IT'S WAY BEYOND . I mean at first i hesitated because i thought that it would be just another game with a thousand gauges and buttons and so on, that would take me ages to familiarize with. But instead i found an easy interface to work with and the feeling....omg....and the graphics.....so many good things that i don;t know with what to start.
So i should get to the point before i get too carried away. I see lots of mentions about these mods and all their interesting features, but the thing is that i haven;t used a mod before. And i was wondering if someone could please point me to the exact mods that i need to install (keep in mind that i'm a complete newb at this game but i like it A LOT and really want to learn it by the book ) but nothing too fancy or complex, something that a new comer can handle.
And another request if i may If anyone has an extra signature that they could spare i would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

Understatement of the century, right there.

Can someone please provide me a list with all the movies (that are worth mentioning) about submarines? The only one i saw was The Hunt For Red October. I'm interested in historically-accurate movies not those hollywood pieces of poo
Thank you.

I know only one that is widely said to be the best film on submarines' topic: "Das Boot". You'll find enormous number of threads about that film here, just use "Search".

PS I've also seen the dreaded "PQ-17"... Avoid that film, never get even close to it! It's a pill of bull**** and incredibly boring... (and that's strange, as Russian films are usually good ones).

Hi and welcome to Subsim

Re mods you have 2 ways to go
Install a myriad of smaller mods to suit your taste or
Go for one of the " Supermods "

WAC 2 http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=87436
NYGM 2.4 - not sure of the thread for NYGM
GWX http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=102096

The supermods include many of the smaller mods and much more
They are a great step up from the stock game

Being biased I will have to say try GWX
New flotillas
More units
Great graphics and loads more

Read the manual

http://files.filefront.com/Manual_V1.../fileinfo.html

Whatever way you choose to go you should have SH3Commander as a must have mod

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=101815

This link will help you no end

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=96026

Enjoy your stay

Hale, Kaleun!
Amazing simulation isnt it? I'm only slightly "not new", but I played SH3 for some time before finding subsim. I'm sure NYGM is wonderful, but I went with GWX after talking to a few people. The download was easy with "Gameshadow" and it is like a brand new game. Cobalt expressed it when he said it would "turn your wow into WOAH", but I dont hink he used big enough letters......I am still amazed at the graphics, skins, and just all the work that went into the game (first) and the GWX mod. I deliberatly found an excuse to turn my computer into the "family computer" just so I could buy a better one with a great graphics card and big flat screen......just for this game! My only advice is to get a big wall clock and put it next to your computer.......so you dont forget what youre doing and realize you have spent 6 hours in your U boat and have to get up for work in 2 hours!
Oh, I'd download SH3 Commander too, if you dont already have it.
Welcome aboard.

If you have put nothing on your SH3 install apart from the 1.4b patch there is no need to uninstall
Just delete\rename the SH3 folder in my documents
