I do have another confirmation that the "new" "old" file fixed the issue on my set-up. I've looked at the files with my run-of-the-mill audio editor stuff, and they both show to be approximately 3.89 seconds long, in "stereo" at 44,100Hz sample rate, at 16-bit PCM. Both of them. Now, the file in the "Stock" SH4 has "waves" (hence the file extension of wav... wow!), of which at least one "clips" or does a digital "over", which means it exceeds the "zero db" line, although there is no such thing in digital... it's just that it's amplitude exceeded what 16-bits could hold, so it "wraps around" in memory, and overwrites other data. Apparently, it's predictable what it overwrites... The SH3 "patch" version of the file has no "wave". I can zoom all the way into the bit sample point, see it, and it's all "flat-lined", yet it produces sound... so it's digital, but I don't know how they do that in a wav... it'd sure be nice to talk to some of the old SH3 devs, and learn some of their "tricks"... Anyway, how it "fixes" it, I don't know, but kudos to Jeff-Groves! Argh! Matey!!! We don't want to compliment him too much though, cause his humble selfs might get all puffy-chest and proud... |

A couple of things. You did a good report on dates, where you were, what sub class you're in, etc. I would have said the issue was due to an S-class sub not having its Sonar Head on the hull, and you were not submerged when you encountered it......but you said your boat is a Balao, which has its sonar receiver on the hull. So, that's not it. The paddle wheeler is probably at issue. When we first started to use it in FOTRS Ultimate, it had no wake from the paddle wheels, nor an audible sound from the engines. To be clear, that isn't how the ship is "heard" with the sonar. There are other parameters that control the sonar detection capabilities, either for the AI Sonar man, or for the manual use of the Hydrophone when the player "listens" for a ship. The audible sound of the paddle wheel engine that wasn't present at first, is used when you do an external camera "fly over" of the target (which you found out). So, there is probably a file missing for the paddle wheeler that keeps it from being detected from the AI subs Sonar man. I'll look into it. One thing about the game in general and the player manual Hydrophone use. You won't hear a target at all if the ship is travelling at less than half its Maximum Speed (set in its .sim file). You mentioned the paddle wheeler was traveling at 4kts. If its Maximum Speed is 9kts (sorry I haven't looked to be sure yet) the player will never hear the ship when using the Hydrophones yourself. Your AI sub Sonar man will detect it (if the ships properly designed), but you won't hear it at all. To be sure, there are plans to correct this for the player Hydrophone use. One way or another, it will be fixed. For now, getting the ship to be detected by the AI will be the first thing to do. Thanks for the report!

Do I have a missing skin?
Patrolling near 119-50'E , 20-22'N on MAr 4 '44 around 20:00 hours on mission from Midway
Attacking a column of liners with 4 escorts. Two of these look like what I attached, believed to be Momi Class II escorts. When viewed in museum they look okay, meaning they have their "clothes" on! https://s16.postimg.org/aycgcddk5/Sc...4.08.30_PM.png What file should I check for something like this? PS. How do I post the actual picture instead of just the link?? |

You already have an "address" for the image. When you use SubSim's "Reply to Thread" interface, look for the small picture icon along the top of the menu bar (the icon looks like a mountain top with a sun in the corner)....mouse over it will produce the term "Insert Image" (if it were any closer it would have bit you!!). Click on it to produce a text box where you can paste your "address" once it's copied from wherever you have it. Your image size is about right for a 1920x1080 picture. Any larger and you'll have the image over run the edges of the thread. I usually will make it 850x648 or something about that size........ to fit the thread without having it too large.

You appear to be missing icons on your interface... You should have text font sizes & style, justification, colors, weblink stuff, etc., in the lighter grey area just above where you type your text message for a new post, or replying. What browser are you using?
To get around not having a quick button, you could also use the bbCode tags that are in [brackets]. You would type the left bracket, "[", then "img" (don't type the quote marks), and another bracket, but the other way "]" Then your link to the foto "https://s16.postimg.org/aycgcddk5/Screen_Shot_2017-04-03_at_4.08.30_PM.png", and to close it, you type similar to before with a bracket "[", but now you need a slash symbol, which means STOP!, so "/", then "img" again, and the last bracket "]" finishes it. No spaces in any of it, unless the link happens to have one, which would be unusual. I'd type it all out in order, but the bbCode takes over, and gives us: which is your picture, of course... |

OK, click on the "UserCP" up towards the top on the page, next to "Downloads", then on "Edit Options" about halfway down, under "Settings and Options". Then click on the "Message Editor Interface" dropdown box near the bottom of that page. Yours is probably set to "Basic Editor". You most likely want to use the "Enhanced - WYSIWYG", and you should then have all the fancy stuff available. Don't forget to click on "Save"!!!
Thanks for the additional info on the convoy you had also! Stuff like that makes is much easy to target one or two (sometimes a half dozen... ) groups that could be the culprit, instead of 1208 of them... |
