Health experts in the US call for urgent action after a record number of new cases were recorded on Friday.

Top infectious disease expert Dr Anthony Fauci says there is "a serious problem" - but Vice-President Mike Pence hails "progress"

The US has more than 2.4 million confirmed infections and at least 125,000 people have died - more than any other country.

Meanwhile, the number of reported cases in India has surged to more than 500,000

Restrictions on some non-essential overseas travel will be relaxed in the UK from 6 July.

More than 9.8 cases and 494,000 deaths worldwide - Johns Hopkins University.

This is a few months old, but it's the kind of information comparing death rates from various causes that I haven't been seeing anywhere so it's interesting https://www.businessinsider.com/char...lu-2020-4?op=1

I'd like to see an update. I'd also like to see current year stats for those other causes of death. If there are zero deaths from cancer this year then something's rotten in Denmark.

https://www.statnews.com/2020/04/09/...uses-of-death/

This states that regularly approximately 8,000 people die per day in the USA from all causes so whatever number more than 8,000 or so should be attributable to covid-19.

USA death clock
https://www.indexmundi.com/clocks/in.../united-states

If you go by their data the average deaths per day in the USA from covid-19 since Jan 1st would be around 750, but few occurred in the first months. This would mean that there should be approximately 8,750 people on average dying each day in the USA from all causes for 2020 as opposed to just 8,000 in 2018 and 2019

@Neal:

What's the deal with the Texas Lt. Governor? It seems there's some sort of disconnect between Lt. Gov. Patrick and Gov. Abboott over the state of Covid-19 conditions in TX; I seem to recall there is/was some sort of TX state constitutional situation that gave the Lt Gov some sort of powers over the office of Gov; is this still in effect and, if so, how will it affect the ability of TX state government to protect their citizens? Just curious, since it is rather unusual to see a Gov and Lt Gov at such odds, particularly when they are from the same party...

Meanwhile, another 'Karen' meltdown over face masks recently took place here in LA and has gotten national attention:

Unhinged Karen Escorted Out Of Trader Joe’s For Not Wearing A Mask --

https://www.scarymommy.com/trader-joes-karen-mask/

This is the raw footage of the above incident; the persons in the Hawai'ian shirts are Trader Joe's employees...

It seems her "breathing problem" has little to no effect on her ability to shout and scream..

This guy gives a pretty good analysis of the "Karen" video and the subject of wearing masks...

I was particularly was amused by this in the above video's comment section: "Karen-a-virus is spiking."...

This caught my attention and it is really shocking to see just how badly conditions seem to be in Russia when it comes to fighting Covid-19 and the struggles of medical staff to cope with the adversities...

For a woman "with breathing problem" she yells surprisingly loud and enthusiastically and enduring. Well, stupid is who does stupid things.

BTW, there are online supermarkets with home delivery services. Even in Germany - so how much more do I expect them to exist in the US!

However, more and more these antisocial people refusing to protect others from the risk of getting infected by themselves more and more often turn aggressive, even violent over here. Itsd not generally on the same aggression olevel everywhere, but depends on where you are. In Berlin for example I read in the city's local press that situations when people tell unmasked people in busses and subways to wear a mask, escalate pretty often and quickly now. And its always the unmasked people turning aggressive.

Reckless, anti-social. There is no freedom to injure, expose to harm, infect others. There is no such right. That would be like claiming a right to put rat poison into somebody's coffee and see whether he gets ill or not. The guy in the second vidoe has it right: "[Wearing a mask] is not a big deal. It is a big deal not to wear one."

Found this.

Take note of the comments. Some grim oneliners there that are worth pure gold.

I just read a newsflash saying that all ICUs in Arizona now are blocked, and over 90% of all ICUs in Florida. Consider that they have boosted the capacities already as much as they could in the time until here.

The US now is at the beginning of where Italy was.

Data suggests that most infections currently are in the age group teenage years to mid-40s. Also, now rural places attract many, many infections. Both is against the canon of "its only the older ones getting hit", its only in the metropoles".

In Israel, they have a similiar problem now. The younger ones get infected massively, in a second wave, they thought they were out of it, since Israel was amongst the global best performers in fighting off the first wave. Now they struggle, and schools were locked down again, since it showed that they were highly active infection hotspots. Likew the US, they reopened again too early.

^I hope you are not right, cause if you are right there's dark dark times ahead for the US.

I wish it were not true. But truth beign told, I saw it coming, and it was not difficult for anyone to see it coming - if only he allowed his eyes to open and do their job of simply watching.

BTW, I just parrot here what I get from the media, it are not my conclusions nor findings.

Germany could end up like Israel and the US, too, if we are not disciplined anymore. Correction: we WILL end up like them for sure if we do not maintain discipline.

I never had the smallest trust for Pence, but in recent days and weeks I have started to think of him as a certain Comical Ali alias Badghadi Bob.

The US states of Florida and Texas have reinstated curbs on bars to battle a surge in infections.

America has recorded around 2.5 million cases and at least 125,000 deaths.

UK travel companies say holiday bookings have "exploded" on news that restrictions are being eased.

Delhi is now India's worst-hit area, with about 73,000 recorded cases and at least 2,500 deaths.

The head of the European Commission has warned no country will escape the pandemic until it has been ended everywhere.

Globally, the number of infections now stands at 9.98m, and more than 498,000 people have died - Johns Hopkins University.

The number of cases is set to pass 10 million shortly with nearly 500,000 Covid-19 deaths, figures by Johns Hopkins University suggest.

In the US - where about one in four of the world’s cases have been recorded - several states including Florida and Texas are reintroducing restrictions amid record numbers of new infections.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has begun to outline plans to kickstart the country’s economic recovery, pledging that the country will “absolutely not be going back to the austerity of 10 years ago"

More illegal street parties have been broken up by police during another night of unlawful gatherings in London. It follows violent clashes last week when officers broke up similar events elsewhere in the capital.
