I addressed an issue that's been bugging me for some time : the guns deck had only one top texture, it would then look transparent when seen from below, so I cloned the missing part.

cool.
but in many pictures I have seen the torpedo tube doors are there, but not the square DOORS leading to the outside. I moved them to the center, kelt.
perhaps I misread All horizontal surfaces except wood decks must be painted so-and-so color, maybe the decks are supposed to be flat black too, I can fix it!
also, if you look at the picture you posted before hitman's post, you can see behind the torpedo tube doors that the faces are flipped.

gotta go, gotta pay a traffic ticket!

issues :

the darn torpedo doors shape : can't seem to get them to fit ok neither to animate them... grrrrr

OK I just conducted a quick test using a new texture for the current wooden deck, replacing it with a dark wood and the result is WOW. The sub looks way better with it, you should change that texture as it is currently disguising the true proportions of the hull/deck/etc.

Where is the wooden deck texture for the guns platform? I have so far been able only to change the main deck, not the gun deck

Aside from that, the sub is really taking a good shape. There are missing polygons around the torpedo doors -which you already know- and also where the rudder joins the hull. The curvature of the bow could benefit from some smooting with additional polygons, and the stern is a bit irregular now (Looks like having been chewed in some places).

There are also some strange floating polygons on the front right side of the tower, may be a door frame?

Finally, the gun barrels could also have some more polygons to have a rounder shape. They are now a bit blocky.

Hitman, the gun deck texture is in the Textures folder, the one pertaining to....uhhh, something involving guns_deck

the faces are flipped on the interior of the Conning tower, where the door leading to the deck is, I fixed it once, and it seemed to not want to work with the textures...humbug.

ok, can you post a picture ? and maybe pm Sledgehammer with the texture details ? He's finishing the textures.

in the texture\Tlowres\text and the other for normal textures

the model is round, but 3ds and SH4 don't show really similar results

Here is a picture. Please note that it is a rubbish texture, a work of 5 minutes to see how a darker deck would look in the game, just to get the idea ...




PD I'm having trouble to open some DDS files, so I simply cloned the low res one for the guns deck texture.

Here is an improved version. Playing a bit with the colours, it is possible to make a darker ship without losing much detail. The look is IMHO clearly superior to that with light brown deck.

Although the placks aren't that dark, they are a shade darker than the ones I put on at first and Sledge placed after that.

also : lighter deck is better than a dark one when seen from above (plane), this isn't the Atlantic Ocean

notice the "168" on the prow of the Nautilus in metal numbers.

rivets : double line to reinforce the plate's edges. notice how the plate size increases between the platforms.

need an exhaust hole under the rear external torpedoes (back of the rear platform) and a pump exhaust hole.

a foothole ladder on the hull between the 2 platforms

two boats holes on the foredeck
