How about you stick to the games you like to play and leave others free to play SH3 should they wish to.

OK, I have already talked about this to The General privately, now please guys move on and let the thread serve its purpose -which is not engaging in a fight about game preferences-

Fortunately, the Constitution of most of our countries still allows us not to play the naval games we don't like - yet - so simply choose what you prefer and let others do the same.

General, now why do you want to start this? SH3 is dead, yeah, right. Submarine sims have really long lives. Next you'll be saying something crazy like Fast Attack is outdated, no one should play it.

Hey you guys should all be working nights not sleeping. GWX3.0 ain't gonna get relased on Xmas eve if you basums are all asleep for half the day and you know that GWX4 needs a bit of work so stop snoring and crank up that hex editor!

I wanted to start my first post by saying that I love this mod Playing it now on my new computer (with XP x64) and it works wonderfully.

But the reason for my posting/making an account is I wanted to report something that happened in one of my games recently to see if it was a bug or actually if it was supposed to happen. I was playing just regular GWX 2.1, no additional mods, and I wandered into a British port to take some easy kills before the war officially started. As I entered (after I sank two merchants in the ocean without being detected) a destroyer spotted me and began to pursue me. I managed to dodge the first barrage of depth charges and was able to position my sub just right to launch a torpedo at the destroyer's broad side. I watched with glee as I saw the destroyer burst into flames but only then did I realize it wasn't from my torpedo My torpedo hit shortly after and before I knew it the entire harbor erupted into a huge conflict. There was a British Trawler and a British PT Boat in the harbor firing into the docks at a British Destroyer. A lot of the buildings engulfed into flames and eventually the destroyer sank the trawler and PT boat, but the harbor was in ruins.

I was wondering--was that supposed to happen? Did I some how cause the British ships in that harbor to mistake one another for the enemy/did a British ship accidentally hit that destroyer I sunk while trying to hit me causing the chaos?

Either way, it was pretty insane and awesome :p Oddly though, after I left the harbor to return to base I was getting fired on by Dutch and Norwegian ships, still before the war had begun (and there was no way they could know I was the cause of that habor mess).

I've never seen anything like it but it sure kicked me hard (in a good way xD) when I realized what happened.

Welcome aboard herr Kaleun!

This is nothing to do with GWX but is simply the way the AI behaves; when fired upon, it fires back at what shot at it regardless of whether it is on the same side.

Thanks for the welcome! So you're saying the AI would do this in regular old Silent Hunter III as well, hmm? If they were close enough to see that the ships they were firing on had the same flag would they stop? I witnessed all of this in the dead of night so xD

Jimbuna is 100% correct. The game engine doesn't recognise flags when hit, it retaliates until out of contact either by destruction or travel.

Default Attacking British before the war!!

I recently read a post for someone who is new to GWX 2.1 that said that they had attacked British destroyers before the start of the war ! I 'm not at all being critical , it just that I have never attacked the British till the start of the war! Is it possible to attack the British before the start of the war without getting spanked for it?

You will receive negative renown for sinking neutral ships... and they may try to kill you as sinking ships from a neutral country causes you to become an enemy of that country for 24 hours game-time in SH3.
