A one-time online activation should be sufficient. They can still tally up how many actually bought the game, including the folks with limited internet connections. Another bonus would be less money spent on server infrastructure; you'd only need authentication services. Less money spent on servers = more money for game development, more money for development of powerful and less obstructive protection methods, and also more money for prosecuting software pirates.

I bought Settlers 7 just to see the updated graphics and enhanced gameplay...not to mention experience the online DRM, and it really didn't hamper me.

HOWEVER, after hearing about all the bugs, missing features and considering the fact that there are a lot of people out there who might actually want to play without an Internet connection (gasp!) including myself, I voted not to buy SH5...

I get the feeling that lifeblood is being split here for nothing - it is Ubi after all but I'll sign nonetheless.

DRM is pure evil dont ever believe otherwise...
