Oh look, Google doodle today is Ljubljana

I always considered buying an S80 or S60. The only new model of any brand that I actually not find repulsive. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to stick wth oldtimers

The circus goes on: Finland's presidential elections are getting the second round with this guy against this guy.

Ahem: Niinistö is a socialist muslim alien, but Haavisto was born in a laboratory and it hasn't even been certified so he must be offspring of a cow and a hamster and both of them are going to take away our guns and liberties and freedom and emancipation and it's dirty when your candidate does it but okay when mine does it, so if you disagree with me you are a Marxist Nazi dentist with ties to the Social Security. YEAH!!!

I've just seen Feuer Frei!'s signature turn into a big 'stop SOPA' sign and thought for a moment he was back, but sadly not, I'm guessing the host site of where he had his sig pic stored has jumped on the bandwagon.

Still better than the nearest alternative -

I'm not complaining per se. Both candidates are at least among the better ones. It warmed my heart a lot to see Mr. Fish's self-confident face turn more and more desperate when he watched the percentages of a green homosexual climb past his own and thus dropping him from the second round.

But it doesn't matter! The whole race is one big farce when ever since the last elections six years ago Niinistö has been cuddled by the media: "don't cwy little Sauli, you'll be the pwesident next time." They could have just saved everyone's time and say: "...and therefore, by the exception to the rule, we are not holding elections but declaring Niinistö as King of Finland, starting now." I was hoping we'd be over this show after the first round, but no, now they want a second one.

On a brighter note, I got employed for the whole spring and summer on a museum. Work experience from my own field is hard to come by while still studying, so I'm fairly excited.

That's what I enjoy the most on election days: not to see the winner, but the faces off the second, third, etc, "winners". No one ever loses, I like how they always declare how much success they had, trying to hide their disappointment.

Congrats to the job, Hottentot, work experience gives you an advantage when you apply somewhere.

And working on a museum must be nice, hope you have a niece view from there, I also hope the roof isn't dark, so it won't be too warm in the summer!

OK, OK, so I never grasped these things in school. I was young and needed money. No, wait, that's wrong explanation for this situation. I was young and stupid. These days I'm...no, wait, it's not that either.

Well...well...you are socialist!

I yield. Too many magic words!
(Bloody communist ).

You, sir, win at the Finnish political system.

And yes, the subtitles are horrible. Apparently I'm not the only Finn who doesn't understand grammar.

That's a parody of a local (somewhat humorous) proverb: "A woman's place is between the fist and the stove." They did lots of similar jokes. Another such variation in that episode, which the translator apparently didn't notice, was how that one member of the centre party had left to buy newest issue of the magazine "Ydintekniikan maailma", which is based on Tekniikan Maailma, a very popular magazine in here.

It's too bad there are no more translated episodes, as that series really was hilarious. Yes, I say was. It ended when, get it, a few different parties didn't understand the concept of "political satire" and started crying how the series is a big conspiracy against their party and only makes fun of them. I suppose the pressure just got too high to make it worthwile anymore.

No wait, I'm taking that back: apparently they made fun of Tony Blair and the Eurovision too while I wasn't watching:

Very old saying, much corrupted.

"Let women stay at home and hold their peace."
-Aeschylus, 467 BC

"A woman is to be from her house three timed: when she is Christened, Married and Buried."
-Thomas Fuller, 1732

"A woman's place is her own home, and not her husband's countinghouse."
-New Sporting Magazine, 1832

"This woman’s place is in the House... the House of Representatives."
-Bella Abzug, 1970

Even the joke is quite old.

"Woman's place is in the wrong."
-James Thurber

"A woman's place is in the stove."
-W.C. Fields
