Captain Ramius was only known to pull the Crazy Ivan at the bottom of the hour. The maneuver to starboard was a guess by Mr Ryan, Therefore the direction was not known.

Haha, thx, I only knew (part of) the answer because by coincidence I recently watched THFRO and remembered the scene. All the questions that came before this one didn't ring any bell whatsoever.

Probably answered many times above, but according to Jack Ryan (who just made it up - had a 50/50 chance) he always turned to starboard when making a Crazy Ivan to clear his baffles.

Not 360 degrees ... they usually just check the baffles and go back to the course they were on the reverse side.

Thus the name, "Chicken dance" first one to change course was a chicken. Lot like jet fighter pilots headed for each other, except they had radar.
