Find radar most useful in bad weather (Heavy Fog, high winds, waves the size of the Bismarck) if you know what your doing you can use the attract the DD's to draw them away from the convoy then you turn it off dive and silently stalk the convoy while the DD's are wondering where the hell you are.

One time on patrol, Bernard used the radar antenna to hang his laundry in (underpants, not washed very good... See the " 5.345.987 seagulls found dead on a beach" thread)
The radar quit working, and a heavy fog was coming in. Suddenly Bernard shouted: "Herr Kaleun, Herr Kaleun, you muzt come and see! There are some ztrange men here, on a weird boat, and they found us in all this fog!" Herr Kaleun went up, just to see the bow of the destroyer, and in the next moment the sub leaned over, with heavy damage..... Bernards underpants flew off the antenna, and landed in one of the destroyers vents. After five minutes, there was no sign of life aboard the destroyer..... Conclusion: Radar is good, Bernard is not.
