Default Question about night.....

Hi all.

Wondering what people's experiences are like vis a vis night visability. In my case, the screen is pitch black to the point I can't even make out my lookouts....There's no way I can possibly identify a merchant's nationality - in fact I can't even see them on-screen even when my crew sights them.

Is this normal? If so, how the hell are you supposed to navigate/attack? I had to leave port using the map as I couldn't see ANYTHING other than a few lights.

Running NYGM 2.2 if that makes a difference.

Comments appreciated!

I do not run that mod but possibly just adjusting you screen might do. I run GW and I cannot see the flags unless on sitting on top of the merchant. For the most part I would suspect you have a good chance of an Allied ship. In GW you can make out the ship and see your watchmen. Like I said, perhaps just a brightness change on you monitor will do.

I felt pretty stupid when I realized that increasing my screen's brightness was all it took:p.

It might just be your moitor brightness settings, then again it might not.
No matter what I did, I could not see a thing at night. It was pitch black, like the monitor was off!
Amazingly talented people here created light night mods, to help us with dark screens to see. But in my case, even that didn't help greatly. By this point, i'd given up with the night and usually just tc'd it.
Then I installed NYGM 2.2 and i could suddenly not only see my watch crew at 1am in the morning but also the sea we were sailing on and, best of all, i've even spotted a few ships on the horzon!

Dunno if it'll help in your case, but if you feel like it, give it a go!

Thanks for comments. As stated originally (not having a go at you!!), I AM running NYGM 2.2. My monitor IS a bit dark anyway, but I'm getting a new one delivered later this week:

Samsung 204B 20.1" LCD, black - 1600 x 1200, 5ms

Maybe that will help - even with a 3/4 moon showing I currently can see squat....!!

How old is your monitor. It may be as others have said, just a matter of turning up the brightness settings, but I have found my self that an older monitor's performance can degrade quite radically over time, and it's not until it's compared with a new one you see the performance drop.

Something like powerstrip can be a big help when monitors are dark. My monitor was set to 100% brightness, yet I couldn't see the crew in the conning tower at night, let alone any ships!

There are a few different monitor/display setting tools out there that can adjust gamma and brightness - worth investigating and getting one for your continued fish firing enjoyment!

Cheers,
red
